A getaway full of fab scenery, peaceful wanders and historical streetscapes… and bringing the dog along for the journey? It’s a cinch at Mayfield Park, a family-friendly and family-owned Gloucestershire site five minutes’ drive from the market town of Cirencester and the pretty village of Bibury. This is a top spot to use as a base for explores of the spectacular Cotswolds. Overlooking the Churn valley, the site has easy access to plenty of local walks and scenic villages – just ask in reception for recommendations – and the long-distance Thames Path (so long it’ll take ramblers all the way to London) starts about 15 minutes’ drive away for lengthy treks. Exploring without needing to use feet or pedals is simple round here too: the bus route for Cirencester and Cheltenham passes the site and there’s a stop about 100 feet from the entrance; otherwise pile everyone into the car for the five-minute ride to Cirencester or the 25-minute canter to Cheltenham. Be sure to head back to the site in time to catch the sun setting over the fields, then settle in for an evening of barbecues as canine pals stretch out in the grass. Want a break from cooking? Sniff out one of the local pubs serving local eats to get a taste of Gloucestershire.

喜欢: Amazing!! The perfect campsite with all the facilities, including a pot wash, launderette, information room ect. Everything was clean and tidy, bathrooms were spotless. The staff were so friendly and welcoming to myself and my friends, we will definitely be returning I couldn’t recommend mayfield park anymore!

喜欢: The facilities were immaculate and very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A very peaceful site and would highly recommend. An excellent place to stay to do the “tourist bit” !! Good value for money too.

不喜欢: Cold showers in male block. Long walk from camping field to toilets. I knew it was on a slope but didn't realise how much of a slope

Unfortunately sometimes you have to press the button a couple of times for the water to get hot, this usually doesn't cause any issues. Had you of mentioned at the time of booking that you wished to be pitched near to the facilities we would have done our best to accommodate. As you mentioned you were aware of a slight slope at the time of booking and again had you requested a flat pitch that too could have been accommodated for you. As mentioned if you had come and spoken to us we would have done our upmost to make you stay a pleasant one. Kind regards The Mayfield team.

喜欢: We had a fully serviced pitch which was a good size and well spaced out. Unfortunately the clutch went on the car while reversing the C'van onto the pitch so only got to stay one night out of a planned 5 before being recovered back home. The site was quiet but we were outside the school holidays but I can see the camping field being popular.

不喜欢: During school holiday period then the single facilities block could become busy but we didn't actually experience this.

喜欢: What a lovely campsite. We stayed for 3 nights and loved it, staff was friendly and helpful at all times. Campsite was really tidy. Toilet and shower block was lovely and clean all the time. The pitches was all a great size. All round was a great stay. Would 100% recommend.

With Cheltenham racecourse a mere 30 minutes’ drive away, this site is a prime pick for horsey types – but if the gee-gees don’t have the family galloping for joy, there are other four-legged, fleet and feathered options at the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens, also half an hour from base. If the Cotswold Gardens grow enthusiasm for stately houses and grand designs, there’s plenty else hereabouts to entice: Chavenage House, Berkeley Castle, Bowood House, Sudeley Castle, Newark Park and Dyrham Park are all within an hour for old piles, and Westonbirt Arboretum and the gardens at Highgrove (Charlie and Camilla’s royal digs) are definitely worth a turn half an hour away. For more urban explores, start 15 minutes from the site in the scenic village of Bibury to have a poke around the Chedworth Roman Villa, travel on to Bourton-on-the-Water (20 minutes) for Birdland, a maze, a motoring museum and a model village, then take things up a notch in Cirencester, where there are Roman remains, museums, markets, parks and a manor house all waiting for visitors. Keep things soothingly low-key with a spin on the Swindon and Cricklade steam railway, 25 minutes away, or get a bit more active with watersports, paintball, fishing and horse riding at Cotswold Water Park or an adrenaline-fuelled day at the Gloucestershire Rally School, both within 20 minutes.
