喜欢: Friendly staff, easy Check in/out. Fantastic views and plenty of space to pitch. Clean toilet block. Will be back!

不喜欢: Struggled to find space in the general waste bin for our rubbish.

喜欢: The size of this campsite is great. Lots of room. You can drive around until you find a suitable spot. Plenty of space for privacy. Great location for walking in the Lathkilldale valley but it is a very steep (and can be slippery) path down to the river. Not many facilities near the main camping fields but there is a brand new toilet block a few minutes walk away. Showers and more toilets etc are near the entrance. A 5 minute walk away. Check in fine. Helpful and friendly staff.

不喜欢: We kept our dog on a lead at all times out of the van and even though this was stipulated as a condition for having dogs on site, there were a few dogs off leads. Most were fine and the owners kept them close by but one came across the field and was tormenting our dog with the owner unable to catch it! There was also a group of youths playing music until 4am even though the noise curfew is 11pm. It seemed that once you are pitched up, there’s no checking or monitoring of the rules.

喜欢: Really nice open site. Toilets at the top were really clean and there was fresh pizza on site.

不喜欢: The shower block could have been cleaner.

喜欢: Absolutely love this campsite, especially when it’s not busy during the week. The views from the back field are amazing, there’s plenty of room and it felt like I was in the middle of nowhere but with the security of knowing I was on a campsite 😊. Facilities were clean and since my last visit another toilet block has been installed so it’s not so far to walk if you are staying in the back field.

Scenic walks are to be had along the namesake river in Lathkill Dale, where you can stride out towards Lathkill Head Cave (an hour and 20 minutes’ walk) or marvel at the clear springs at The Blue Waters near the peaceful village of Over Haddon (35 minutes). For a slightly longer ramble, Arbor Low Stone Circle and Gib Hill Barrow (90 minutes) reward with prehistoric monuments and ancient burial mounds. Combine your stroll around the verdant grounds at Chatsworth House with a guided tours of the mansion’s ornate rooms packed with priceless antiques, or take in the Elizabethan Walled Gardens at Haddon Hall (both 20 minutes’ drive) after you’ve admired the tapestry collection and medieval chapel. For an insight into Peak District heritage, visit the bijou Eyam Museum (also 20 minutes) in the famed ‘plague village’ to learn the story of the Bubonic Plague of 1346–52, or have a wander around the deserted remains of Magpie Mine (five minutes’ drive), which was the last working lead mine in Derbyshire and closed in 1958.
