添加您的业务详细信息A lakeside setting surrounded by farmland and based within a large National Trust estate… sound right up your street? Pack your bags and head to Embers Camping – Claydon, based on Claydon Estate, a 5,000-acre working estate with farmland, gardens and parkland to explore.
Set in a tree-lined area next to one of the estate’s lakes, the spacious site should please keen ramblers just as much as families whose must-haves are plenty of space to unwind and play games. In the centre of the site, there's a large area for volleyball, football, cricket and table tennis. Surrounded by the north Buckinghamshire countryside, the family-run estate also gets excellent stargazing conditions and has easy access to local walks.
In the morning, pick up a cheese toastie or a croissant from the snack bar, which also sells barista coffee, ice cream and ice-cold drinks. If you want something stronger later, it also sells draught beer, wine and mixers such as gin and tonic.
The clean bathrooms on site include flushing toilets and piping-hot showers, so you have plenty of creature comforts (just remember to bring your own towel). Each pitch gets their own fire basket too, and this doubles up as a barbecue with a tripod and grill.
Not much of a barbecue chef? Claydon’s courtyard is a 10-minute stroll from the pitches. Now home to food, events, independent shops, a spa and other businesses, it used to have workshops, stables, coach houses, laundry and a brew house and other old estate facilities. At the courtyard’s The Phoenix Kitchen, get your hands on breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea (with a 10% discount for guests); the outdoor seating area has great views over the house and estate.

If your idea of good family times are something along the lines of feeding animals, resting in a barn-style café and learning about rare breeds, a day at Hogshaw Farm & Wildlife Park (five minutes’ drive) is due. This rural park has an outdoor play area, go-karts, bouncy pillows, soft play, farm animals, a nature trail and falconry displays, plus plenty more things for family members of all ages to do.
Keen to try out a new skill too? At Willen Lake (half an hour), get stuck into paddlesports, sailing or archery. If you’re feeling like a lazy day instead, settle for a stroll around the lake or let the kids have a good run around the big outdoor play area.
In Woburn, there are treetop obstacle courses to tackle at Go Ape Woburn (40 minutes) and plenty of exotic animals to see on a drive through the enclosures at Woburn Safari Park (40 minutes). Both of these must be booked online.
