Wood you just look at these? Handsome wooden glamping units, surrounded by equally handsome woods – a rather fab combo for folks seeking to get back to nature but with that extra bit of warmth and comfort. Peace and quiet prevail at Le Petit Robinson, a rural retreat in the Nièvre region five minutes' drive from Decize, with greenery and trees all around and a little menagerie of farm animals to meet and greet on site. All is set up to aid relaxing hols here: all your towels and bed linen are provided, and you can up the creature-comfort factor in your own personal space by hiring from an array of gadgetry – among them hairdryers to tend your barnet, microwaves for quick meals and crêpe makers for tasty snacks. Electric cars can also be charged on site. And these little wooden buildings house not only your sleeping quarters but also some excellent spots for further relaxing, such as a sauna hut and a common room where you can cosy up around the woodburning stove with books or board games. Outside, there’s plenty of space for kids to roam about, and a playground with kit for table tennis and pétanque. You can also hire e-scooters on site (helmets, gloves and high visibility vests are provided) to explore the forest or the water's edge (the Nièvre river has a number of options with its bike path). Should your idea of a relaxing time involve delegating culinary tasks, have a word with the friendly folk in reception and they can deliver breakfast baskets and other meals to your digs or provide you with all you need to cook a meal on the communal kota grill (housed in another little wooden house, naturally). Please order all on-site meals three days in advance.

Lokala sevärdheter

Rent a bike at the park to ride along the 180 kilometres of marked cycling trails that network the local area, or take a short trip out to Morvan Regional Natural Park, about 20 minutes' drive away. Up here are more cycle trails and fab hiking paths through the hilly, woody landscape, along with canoe hire and horse riding centres within easy reach. A smashing (and easy) way to see some of the scenery is to take a boat trip along the Nivernais Canal from Decize to Châtillon-sur-Loire. You'll cruise through places like Nevers, home to France's oldest china factory and the Ducal Palace; La Charité-sur-Loire, with its spectacular abbey church; and Sancerre, where you can sample the area's unique Crottin de Chavignol goats' cheeses and taste the region's famed wines. Other day trips nearby include the motor racing at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours, just over half an hour away, the riverside medieval castle at Château-Chinon, 45 minutes away, and the excellent Le PAL, a theme park and zoo all rolled into one, 50 minutes away.
