Campeggio del Garda

No doubt it’ll take a certain amount of effort to drag yourselves away from that view and that pool, but the plethora of attractions nearby means it’s very much worth doing (and it’ll all still be there when you get back…) Start by pottering around Peschiera del Garda – it’ll take you 10-15 minutes or so to wander up to the centre to take in the Porta Verona, Palazzina Storica and historic prison, or hail a boat taxi for a tour of the lake. If you’d rather stick to the land side, take a drive to Sirmione (25 minutes away, at the end of the peninsula you can see from the site) to explore the 13th-century Scaligero Castle and the ruins of the Grottoes of Catullus. For more on the history and gorgeous buildings front it’s got to be a day out in Verona (half an hour away by car or the direct train from Peschiera del Garda). Should the kids tire of such things, it’s handy to note that a trio of top family attractions – Gardaland theme park, Movieland and the Sea Life Aquarium – are within a 10-minute drive.
