The Rhins of Galloway is an incredibly beautiful area and one of Scotland's lesser known corners and attracts those seeking a break from the everyday hustle and bustle. The lanes are quiet and so the area is popular with walkers. Cyclists come to either ramble around the lanes or to begin the epic cross-country Kirkpatrick C2C cycle route from Stranraer to Eyemouth on the West Coast. The Rhins of Galloway Coast path which loops around the peninsula beginning and ending in nearby Stranraer and is perfect for the experienced walker. Our nearest access points to this path are at Dally Bay or Corsewall Lighthouse. Nearby Portpatrick is also the beginning of the spectacular Southern Upland Way which crosses Scotland and ends just below Edinburgh Stranraer has a good variety of shops, a museum, a castle and lots of pubs and restaurants. Perfect for a day out. It hosts a number of world class events such as the windsurfing Fin & Foil championship in August each year and the very tasty Oyster Festival each September. The Mull of Galloway Lighthouse lies at the most southernly point in Scotland and is well worth a visit. There is a good café which has spectacular views of the Isle of Man and the surrounding coastline. There is also a bird watching room and tours of the lighthouse itself are possible in the high season. From your decking you will see the sister lighthouse to the Mull of Galloway, Corsewall; there you can book a meal or just drop in for a cup of tea. If you walk along the coast path you might happen to spot the resident sea otters going about their business. The Gulf Stream gives the Rhins of Galloway a warm winter climate and consequently there are a number of top class gardens in the area including Logan Botanic Gardens; Glenwhan Gardens & Arboretum and at Castle Kennedy.
