If you don’t want to give up your regular beer outings while on holiday, you might want to book a pitch at The Duke of Wellington, a traditional pub in the quiet North Yorkshire village of Welbury, a 15-minute drive from the market towns of Northallerton and Yarm. Here you’ll be able to spend your evenings sampling local ales without having to worry about designated drivers or taxis. Not only that: you’ll be on the outskirts of the North York Moors National Park, which you can access from the village of Osmotherley (10 minutes’ drive). The park has a long network of trails for all abilities – from short circular walks to challenging hikes up to the rocky Wainstones crags – plus mountain-biking routes. For something less strenuous, you can ride on the bridleways lacing the woodland around Northallerton Equestrian Centre (10 minutes), get a day ticket for course fishing at Stonebridge Fishing Lakes (half an hour) or spend a day at Redcar Beach (35 minutes), a popular spot for surfing. The Duke of Wellington serves home-cooked food and organises a programme of events, from live music to quiz nights. It also has a children’s play area and a games room with a pool table, table football and, for those who can’t bear to tear themselves away from the footie, Sky Sports. The pub toilets are available for camping guests, and there is also a parent-and-baby washroom.

The atmospheric ruins of a 14th-century Carthusian monastery are just one of the highlights at Mount Grace Priory, House and Gardens (15 minutes’ drive), where you can also visit a manor house with elegant Arts and Crafts decor (including a William Morris carpet). And, of course, the gardens are well worth a stroll at any time of year, with seasonal spectacles like spring bluebells and Japanese maples providing autumn colour. On the banks of the River Tees, Preston Park Museum & Grounds (half an hour) has heaps of activities to keep the kids entertained, from an adventure play area and a skate park to woodland walks and Butterfly World, a tropical environment where you can stroll among colourful butterflies. At the seaside town of Whitby (one hour), you can climb the 199 Steps to a windswept clifftop with the ruins of Whitby Abbey, said to have served as inspiration for Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’. You can also go on a whale-watching tour or grab fish and chips at one of the many restaurants along the lively harbour.

Понравилось: There was a pub, the kids could go in the pub until 9pm which they could play with toys and colouring books. Nice place, quiet, nice scenery around. Toilet use through the night.

Не понравилось: Nothing to do for the kids outside of the facility. No park or play items.

Понравилось: Stayed here in our little campervan with our two kids. Lovely warm welcome and great value stop off. I'm really sensitive to road noise and the camping field was very peaceful and set back from the pub and the quiet road.

Не понравилось: Would be tight access for a motorhome

Понравилось: Great value home cooked food and choice of drinks. Free pool table and darts with good atmosphere. Friendly staff. Lovely little village. Great place to park up the van in a quiet place, relax with food and drink and its close to all what North Yorks has to offer.

Понравилось: I camped with my daughter as was running Northallerton Parkrun the morning after. Really enjoyed our stay, the owners were lovely and made us feel very welcome. The pub was really nice and had excellent beer & food and the site was exactly what we wanted. We would definitely recommend, and look forward to visiting again.

Понравилось: Fantastic little place. We booked last minute for 1 night and ended up staying 2 nights. very fair priced the owners are the nicest people an can not do enough for their guests. The pub serves nice food, and drinks are reasonably priced to, Their was entertainment on in the pub on Saturday night which was really good and they also done a funday on the bank holiday Monday. Would definitely recommend going. We will return we were a family of 4 with a 15 year old and 13 year old and we all enjoyed our self. Thanks Decca & Cheryl for your lovely hospitality x

Понравилось: We stayed in our trailer tent and found it perfect for us. Owners were great, very helpful and accommodating and friendly. Being behind a very nice pub with great food and variety of beers etc is very convenient and relaxing. Very family friendly too. We would definitely stay again. Thank you guys for a great stay x
