Gostou We stayed for 2 nights on the 'adults only' field. Wonderfully quiet and peaceful. The field does slope quite a lot, so be careful how you pitch. It has great views over rolling fields. This does mean you are a little exposed, so make sure you take a windbreak for when the wind gets up. Toilets were very clean and tidy and 20p for the showers is fine in my book. The Limestone Way runs through the site, so it's great for walkers. Monyash with it's pub and cafe are about a 20 minute walk away, but take a torch if you'll be returning after dark. We walked from the site to the beautiful Lathkill Dale on the first day, then walked to Magpie Mine and Ashford on the Water on the second. Two very different walks, but both very enjoyable.

Gostou The location is excellent. It’s in a quiet location with minimal passing traffic. It’s a short walk to the beach either by the quiet coastal path, or the direct route into Exmouth. The direct road is quite narrow and only has pavement for the final stretch though, so you need to be wary of vehicles. There is also a family-friendly pub in easy walking distance.   For cyclists it's a short ride into Exmouth where you can take the cycle lane for the length of the sea front, then follow the designated cycle route to pick up the Exe Estuary Trail North through the pretty village of Lympstone, and crossing the river further North. Then a pleasant ride south on the opposite bank, picking up the passenger ferry back to Exmouth (bikes an extra £1) at Starcross.   There's also easy access to the Exmouth to Budleigh Salterton cycle route which is a disused railway so easy, relatively flat riding until you descend into Budleigh Salterton. The on-site bar is very good. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and a good selection of beers on draught.   The toilet blocks are clean and tidy and there is no additional charge or annoying timers for the showers.   The on-site wardens/staff are very helpful and friendly.   The site has a quiet policy with no music allowed after 11:00pm

Não gostou The quiet policy did not seem to be very well enforced. Campers not observing the 11:00pm curfew were asked to keep the noise down, but if they ignored the requests there seemed to be no further action taken. Additionally, the policy did not seem to apply to those staying in the Country Lodge, so the camp pitches near to the lodge could be subjected to music from the lodge occupants at all hours - this was particularly bad on warm summer evenings (yes we did get some!) when the lodge windows were open.   The Ginger Pig Kitchen was advertised as available Fridays and Saturdays but we never found it to be operational - maybe we just timed it badly? Make sure you have a backup plan for food if you plan to use it - Local takeaways deliver to the site and food can be ordered using the usual popular Apps on your phone.   There's no doors on the men's showers, only curtains. This isn't a huge problem - just wear minimal clothing when you go for a shower to avoid getting your clothing/towel wet - you have to get everything onto one hook!

Do gestor: Thank you for your review, we try very hard to keep things quiet after 11pm but sometimes people are very difficult to deal with and don't adhere to our requests. Removing campers from the site is our last resort. The Ginger Pig does our on site catering but occasionally they are still catching up on last years wedding bookings etc that had to be moved because of Covid. We are looking at trying to find alternatives but as you say, delivery is easy to organise from others sources. We hope to see you again.

Gostou We spent a very pleasant week at Foxhanger's camp site during the 2017 summer holidays. The site has two small, adjacent camping fields; each of which have a variety of pitch sizes available at differing prices. We opted for the larger 12m x 12m pitch, which was more than ample for a six-berth tunnel tent, car, and camping trailer. There was a slight slope to the fields, but not enough to cause us issues. The site advertises "canal side holidays" and the towpath is only a short, un-sign-posted, walk away: head between the static caravans, then turn left. However, it's not so canal-side that there is a danger of little campers going splash while at play; or, unfortunately, of watching quaintly decorated narrowboats chug by as you sip a cool drink in your camping chair. If the latter is your kind of thing: read on for details of the Barge Inn. If the former is your kind of thing: I can't offer any suggestions; you need professional help! The easy access to the canal towpath makes getting about much easier, and safer if you decide to cycle: no cars, busses or lorries to worry about. Head East to the picturesque engineering marvel of Caen Hill Locks, and on to Devizes town centre; stopping en-route at the Café, for coffees, teas and ice-cream, or the canal-side Black Horse pub for something more substantial. Alternatively, head West to the picture-postcard beautiful Barge Inn (I do love a pub with a pun). I would recommend bringing your bikes: the ride to the Barge Inn is a very pleasant fifteen-minute cycle, with none of the hill climbing you get going East, making it a far more frequent activity than an hour's walk would encourage. It also means that after enjoying the excellent local Wadworth ales, you don't have to worry about "holding it in" for an hour during the walk back to the relief of the site facilities (see Disliked for more details on these). Foxhangers also offer narrow boat rental, and we had fun spotting the Foxhangers boats on our journeys along the towpath, rather like people spot Eddie Stobart trucks. If you want to get a full spotters list, the names of all Foxhangers' boats can be found on their website. All boats have "Fox" in their name. Alas, there is currently no "Fox Ache" in the fleet. If it ever gets added, it must be number four in the list. We hoped that the Foxhangers name had some amusing derivation: rather like Hartlepool's "monkey hangers", but unfortunately (or fortunately for Wiltshire's reynard and vixen population) this does not seem to be the case. For amusing local folklore, check out the origins of "moonraker" - a colloquial name for Wiltshire residents, that we spotted on a number of narrow boats during our stay. If you are looking for a campsite that will be your holiday, then you best look elsewhere: there is no clubhouse, or site shop, or children's play area. If however, you are looking for a suitable base to explore the delights of Wiltshire, then Foxhangers is a great choice, and excellent value for money. Just remember to bring your bikes!

Não gostou There were two toilet blocks on site, although "blocks" doesn't quite paint the correct picture; if I refer to them as "brick out-houses" it hopefully gives a mental image that is more accurate. Both out-houses were uni-sex - or rather were for uni-sex use: surely out-houses are asexual? The main out-house had two shower cubicles and two toilet cubicles; with wash basins and sinks for washing dishes in the main communal area. There was also a separate disabled toilet in the same building. The showers were functional, if a little dated and in need of refurbishment; we did struggle to get controllable temperatures during our stay - apparently due to water pressure issues. The second out-house was more "compact and bijou", which I'm sure you will recognise as Estate Agent speak for flipping tiny! It had two toilet cubicles; each with their own wash-basins; so, is a better bet for people who wish to brush their teeth (or other parts) in private. It also squeezed in a sink for washing dishes, a payphone, and one very small shower cubic: it was too small to qualify as a whole cubicle. If you have frequented National Trust (other charitable conservation organisations are available) properties, then you will have noticed that man (and woman) has grown taller through the ages. My best guess therefore is that the shower head was installed in the 17th century. There was also limited room inside the cubic for dressing and undressing (usually in the opposite order) which lead to campers attempting to perform these activities in the area between the cubic and the toilets; an area so small that it was impossible to open two doors at once, despite the corner already having been cut off the shelf next to the sink. Foxhangers: please note that not all people staying in tents are circus performers. (I'm alluding to acrobats - I've been careful to avoid favouritism and sexism in this paragraph; so I'm not going to be hanged for heightism now; in fact the cubic isn't tall enough for me to be hanged there for anything) That said, cleanliness of both out-houses was excellent. They were regularly cleaned, and despite some traditional English summer weather, there were none of the issues experienced on other sites, when muddy boots meet shower block puddles, and dressing after showering becomes unnecessarily challenging.

Gostou Excellent accommodation. The pod was clean and well equipped and the bed was big enough for a 6' 2" person to get a good nights sleep. We were particularly impressed by the en-suite. The site is well maintained and very tranquil. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Não gostou Quite a long walk to the nearest pub in Fownhope and the footpaths through the fields are not very well marked. Take a barbecue and enjoy the site instead! Whilst the pod had most things we needed, including tea and coffee, some glasses would have been welcomed - luckily we had our own camping wine glasses with us, so was not a big problem for us.
