Vital CAMP Bayerbach

The site’s Lower Bavaria locale is spot-on for hiking, cycling, horse riding and Nordic walking, and golfers will feel rightly at home around here too, for it’s a veritable golfers’ paradise, with more than 40 golf courses to tee off at around the region. City day trips are also a cinch from Vital CAMP Bayerbach: the ‘Three Rivers City’ of Passau (35 minutes' drive), which lies where the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers meet and is filled with historic attractions like a 13th-century hilltop fort and Baroque old town; Regensburg (an hour and 35 minutes), on the Danube, has a highly handsome twin-spired Gothic cathedral and medieval core; and Landshut’s (an hour and 15 minutes) must-see is its famed medieval Trausnitz Castle. Also well worth a visit are spots like the Baroque health resort of Schärding (25 minutes) for its vibey bar and restaurant scene; the Salzach river city of Burghausen (45 minutes) near the Austrian border; and Altötting (45 minutes) in the pretty Alpine foothills of Upper Bavaria. While you're in this last one, don't miss the chance to marvel at the Panorama Altötting, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a huge 1,200 m² canvas painting on the interior of a circular building (it's a bit like 360º surround-sound but with art – really rather amazing…)
