Time for a slice of the simple life? Grab a peaceful Lake District pitch at Church Lane Campsite and immerse yourselves in proper scenic countryside with few distractions. This back to basics site has life’s essentials in place – in the form of drinking water, toilets and showers – but hasn’t gone overboard with other facilities, so you’ll simply be left to set up your space and soak up the gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside. Pitches here are on grass with trees around the field to provide a bit of shelter and shade – and the views are pretty much green as far as you can see… This setting gives the place a remote atmosphere that’s well suited to adventurous travellers, nature lovers and serenity-seeking couples or families. That said, it’s not actually all that remote – handily, you’ll be able to drive to Kendal in about 10 minutes for cultural attractions, shops and places to eat, and popular Windermere is about the same distance in the other direction. Closer still are a smart rural restaurant and the little village of Crook, a mile away and the home of the local pub – both excellent options for a good feed.

Gostou The campsite was spacious and had portaloos with disinfectant, an outdoor double sink with dish soap, and two showers.

Very friendly and welcoming owners.

Não gostou Of the two showers, one was ice cold and the other super hot. Likely due to the amount of people using the showers at the time.

Apologies that one of our showers was cold, we hadn't spotted that one of our batteries (which triggers the gas ignition in the shower unit) had run out. This is now fixed and both showers are back up and running as normal.

Gostou Lovely camp site, not too far from a little pub, close drive to Kendal and Windermere, stunning views, lovely clean showers and toilets. Nice and basic but exactly what you need for camping!! So much space to choose from to put your tent up

Gostou Lovely campsite, facilities were good. The brothers that ran it were just so lovely, chatty and helpful. They brought round ice lollies on a very hot day, were wonderful and welcoming to the children and even came and helped jump start my parents car when it broke down the morning we were due to leave. Lovely spot to easily access Kendal and Windermere quickly. Lovely plumgarths farm shop and cafe nearby as well as Lovingly Artisan Bakery which is an absolute gem. The local pub, The Sun Inn was brilliant too. All in all a wonderful stay!

Gostou The site is peaceful and the owners were very welcoming, taking their time to come and chat to each tent. Basic but clean showers with plenty of hot water. Close distant to a couple of pubs and a short drive to larger towns if needed.

Gostou The campsite consists of two adjoining fields. The fields are well maintained and the grass is plentiful and ground perfect for pitching tents. Surrounded by rolling hills and the sound of lambs and sheep. The farmers are very friendly and came to check everyone was ok and also an evening check, making sure the gate was closed which was reassuring. The site was peaceful and as a female solo camper I felt safe. Would camp here again. Showers wet hot! Campsite was spotless, no rubbish left anywhere outside of the bin area.

Não gostou Portaloos are not a problem, but there are only 4. Might not be enough of both fields were full.

Gostou Great nature campsite. Plenty of sloping hills but this didn’t lead to any water pooling issues despite a significant storm! Good shower and clean portaloos. Staff on site were friendly too.

Não gostou Steep sloped field and may be tricky to find a good pitch at busy times.

If you’re here to explore the attractions of the Lake District National Park, there’s surely no better place to start than Windermere (10 minutes’ drive) – it is, after all, England’s largest natural lake. Boat trips and various watersports (including kayaking and paddleboarding) can help you get out on the water, or you can stick to the lakeshore for a walk, a visit to the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction (10 minutes) or adventure activities at Brockhole on Windermere (15 minutes). Other nearby natural attractions include Kentmere (20 minutes) and Rydal Cave (25 minutes); but if you hit a rainy day, maybe you’d prefer to head to Kendal (10 minutes) for its various museums and arts venues, or to Levens Hall (15 minutes), a little way south of the town. Something to keep the kids happy? Try the animal experiences at Lakeland Farm Visitor Centre (15 minutes) or Predator Experience – Wolf Experience UK (25 minutes). Or, if you’d like a bit of peace for a while, lose them in the labyrinth at Lakeland Maze Farm Park (15 minutes).
