Fancy waking up in the forest? Take yourselves to Kamp Beli Gaber, in the Notranjska region in the south of Slovenia, and that’s exactly what will be in store. This small campsite is tucked away in the forest just outside the tiny village of Vrh and about five kilometres from the slightly larger Stari Trg pri Ložu. It’s a blissfully quiet setting where the soundtrack is provided by birdsong and the wind rustling the leaves, and you’ll have the sights and scents of the woodland all around. How you choose to settle in this splendid setting is up to you – there are designated pitches on open terraced areas for looking out over the surroundings, or you may like to tuck yourselves away in a hidden corner among the trees for that feeling of being fully immersed in nature. Wherever you choose to stay, you’ll have access to all the essential facilities including toilets, showers, a washing-up area and a well-equipped summer kitchen with dining tables in a converted characterful hayrack building. Being well away from urban areas, this is a wonderful spot for stargazing, and there are plenty of other countryside activities around too – including hiking, cycling and wildlife watching (there are places nearby where you can look out for brown bears from the safety of a wooden hide).

Gostou Everything! The owners were adorable and very friendly. The camp, the view and the atmosphere were wonderful.
I also like the commun area were you can speak with poeple from other countries.

Gostou the grass areas for setting up the tents are nice and flat,
the surrounding nature,
very quiet and dark at night which is great for watching stars,
vegetables out of the owner's garden for free use,
free use of the kitchen place (three gas powered stoves and three refrigerators) in the common hay-barn-kitchen-living-room,
the wooden construction and design of the hay-barn building and the bath rooms,
very relaxed handling of check-in and -out times

Não gostou for us it actually wasn't a real 'dislike' (!)... but you should be aware that (if all the tent sites and other accommodations are fully booked) there is not enough room to park your car close to the tents - unloading/loading is ok with a max. walking distance of (I estimate) 30 meters - but other than that the cars have to be parked around 100m from the tents.
can't judge the WiFi... as we didn't even try to connect to something

Gostou Super camping familial en pleine nature. La gérante est très sympathique. Le camping est bien entretenu. Les sanitaires sont très bien. La cuisine ouverte avec le grand espace commun est super chouette.

Hiking is a great way to explore the area, perhaps starting with the three-kilometre trail from the site to Snežnik Castle or the six-kilometre route to Babno Polje (bring your hat for this one – it’s known as the coldest inhabited place in Slovenia…) For more of an uphill challenge, it’ll take you about 45 minutes to drive to Snežnik to climb the highest non-alpine peak in Slovenia. If you’d rather travel on two wheels, there are some nice rides around Loška dolina, five kilometres away, or you can follow traffic-free trails through the woods to Lake Cerknica, 20 kilometres away. Another spectacular sight is the Cross Cave (15 minutes’ drive), where you can explore the underground lakes on a boat trip. For a full day out, you might like to combine trips to Predjama Castle (55 minutes), a Renaissance fortress built into a 100-metre cliff, and Postojna Cave (45 minutes), where a mini train takes you on a tour through the spectacular subterranean caverns. As they’re close together, you can buy a combined ticket, and a shuttle bus runs between the two during the summer months.
