Reccies around the lovely local Vipava Valley vineyards are among the more sedentary of outings you can get stuck into around the immediate locale of the fably friendly and well-appointed Kamp Vrhpolje. The mountainous landscape means that hiking and biking are popular outdoorsy pursuits around these parts, and for those who seek to whip up a little more adrenaline, climbing, canyoning and paragliding over the mountains are further options, and rafting and canoeing on the Soča river yet more. You won't have to journey far to sample the local tipple, as there's homemade wine available at the site itself, so settle back and sip as you survey your splendidly scenic surrounds… Also handily, you can rent bikes on site to get out and about on, so should you fancy sampling a different tipple, you’ll easily make it out for a pootle around the vineyards and wine shops that lie nearby too. Among the amenities on site are a washing-up area and washrooms with toilets and showers to keep you feeling fresh and fine throughout your stay. A free wifi service is at your disposal too, so should you smugly feel like sharing with those at home what’s been happening on your hols, then you most certainly can.

You’re well sorted for weeks’ worth of active outings direct from the site: heaps of hiking and cycling trails stretch out across the mountains that lie around Kamp Vrhpolje, with the Christian Cross viewpoint a mere 500 metres from base if surveying your splendid surrounds sounds like it might be something you’d rather fancy. Two kilometres away in In Vipava you can soar high above the local peaks with a paragliding flight, tackle the waters on a canoeing or rafting expedition, or mix it up with canyoning for a cracking combo of land- and water-based adventuring. For adrenalised antics elsewhere, climbers can clamber eight kilometres away, and subterranean souls can delve deep into the cave systems over at Škocjan and Postojna. If you consider yourself to be a fiend for food and drink-based treats, then you should certainly seek out a tour of the Vipava Valley vineyards, and if you’re planning on having a car, a pootle around the spectacular Slovenian Littoral scenery is another pastime that’s highly recommended around more of the Vipava Valley vineyards or the tiny and traditional local villages such as Erzelj, Lozice, Manče and Slap.
