It’s all about relaxing and unwinding in leafy, sustainable surroundings at Camping Welgelegen Workum, a family site five minutes’ drive from Workum in Friesland. Practise yoga under the trees, take a dip in the eco-friendly swimming pond – there’s no chlorine to sting your eyes in this pool – and cool off on summer days under the apple and pear trees in the 100-year-old orchard. The grass pitches are sheltered by mature trees and hedgerows too, as are the neatly landscaped parking spaces. A modern shower block with the added bonuses of a yoga room and shared kitchen was built from recycled and bio-based materials. To explore the area sustainably, leave the car behind and rent a canoe, bicycle or paddleboard – and to reduce your carbon footprint further, ditch the car completely and arrive by train into Hindeloopen station, 15 minutes’ walk away. There’s absolutely no need to lift a finger in the catering department if you don’t want to (there’s a supermarket five minutes’ drive away if you insist on cooking), as a food service starts with the breakfast buffet showcasing regional Frisian dishes and segues into pizzas, ice cream and organic apples from the orchard later in the day. Saturday evenings are given over to ‘grilling and chilling’ around the communal barbecue for a chance to meet fellow guests for a chat. If you’re after some sporting action, take kitesurfing lessons at the site’s school before heading out onto IJsselmeer waves (five minutes’ drive).

Gostou Loved the swimming pool wish we could have spent a bit more time here.

Não gostou The gas cooker was difficult to use and felt a bit unsafe in a wooden hut. The shower and facilities are all very new but the power on the shower was poor.

Não gostou Onpersoonlijk, geen toezicht (tot laat veel drukte in de zwemvijver bijvoorbeeld, geluidsoverlast door muziek van camping gast). Te duur.

Jammer dat u uw verblijf als onpersoonlijk en onrustig heeft ervaren. Wij zijn een echt familiebedrijf en persoonlijke aandacht staat bij ons hoog in het vaandel. Daarom vinden we het extra jammer dat u dit anders heeft ervaren.

Hoewel wij een kleine camping zijn, bieden we veel voorzieningen, zoals luxe sanitair, een zwemvijver en een pizza- en ontbijtservice. Dit is ook terug te zien in onze tarieven.

Wij vinden het belangrijk dat alle gasten rekening met elkaar houden. Mocht u overlast ervaren, meld dit dan alstublieft direct bij ons. Dan kunnen wij de betreffende gasten aanspreken en samen naar een oplossing zoeken. Uw opmerkingen over het toezicht nemen wij uiteraard mee.

Gostou Der Platz ist sehr individuell und mit viel Liebe gestaltet. Die vielen Bepflanzungen und kleinen Sitzecken machen den Platz zu einem ganz besonderen Campingfeeling. Dazu gehören auch die originellen Unterkunftsmöglichkeiten. Uns hat insbesondere der wunderbare Retrowohnwagen sehr gut gefallen. Das gesamte Team war sehr freundlich, wir fühlten uns willkommen. Die nette Bar sorgte für eine schöne Urlaubsatmosphäre.
Alles in allem hatten wir eine wunderbare Urlaubswoche.

Gostou De plek, het ontvangst, het sanitair, het eten en alle gasten die op de camping waren! Zo gezellig bij het kampvuur. Alle kinderen speelden zo mooi samen.
Oh en vergeet het prachtige zwembad niet!

Gostou Wunderschöner Campingplatz mit super netten und lockeren Besitzern! Das Waschhaus ist modern und sauber, die Bar drinnen und draußen gemütlich, der Naturteich schön angelegt, toller Garten zum Abhängen, die Kinder hatten Spaß und sie bieten ein gutes Freizeitangebot, nebst leckeren Pizzen und dem Grillabend am Samstag.
Ihr Motto "Good vibes bring us together" ist Programm. Gerne wieder!!!

Não gostou Wir haben direkt an der Böschung zur Straße hin gezeltet. Die Geräuschkulisse hat mich eigentlich nicht gestört, aber für ganz empfindliche Ohren empfehle ich einen Platz auf den kleineren Wiesen. Ab und zu wehte ein unangenehmer Geruch vom Kanal zu uns herüber. Wird uns aber nicht davon abhalten wieder zu kommen.

Keen to crank up those kitesurfing skills? The strong winds and consistent waves of IJsselmeer provide several spots for doing just that. Depending on wind direction, Workum, Hindeloopen (both five minutes’ drive), Mirns (15 minutes) and Cornwerd (20 minutes) are all favourites with locals in the know. And it’s not just kitesurfing here – have a go at dinghy sailing or go extreme and try wing foiling too. No wind at all? No problem. Go paddleboarding on Fluessen lake (15 minutes), attempt the waterski course on Sneekermeer (half an hour) or rent a motorboat (10 minutes) to have a putter along the IJsselmeer shoreline dotted with pretty fishing villages. Those of you who prefer to do your exploring on terra firma can follow the Zuiderzee Route cycling route (10 minutes by bike) through pleasingly flat countryside dotted with windmills, or bike sections of the Frisian Eleven Towns Tour, taking in pretty canal-side towns packed with gabled buildings like Leeuwarden (two and a half hours) and Makkum (45 minutes).
