Campeggio Pineta al Mare

Should you manage to tear yourself away from all the fab facils at Pineta al Mare, there’s more than enough for weeks’ worth of fun with the fam within an hour’s scenic drive; Ciuchino Birichino Adventure Park is within half an hour by car for treetop adventure trails, archery, orienteering and falconry, and Acquapark Egnazia is around the same distance north along the coastline for waterslides, wave machines and more water-based buffoonery. If you’re into animals of the mammally or marine variety, head over to Zoosafari Fasanolandia, 40 kilometres from base – it’s got a safari park, a zoo and a sea lion aquarium, and if you’re up for tagging on some white-knuckle stuff, you can hit the rollercoasters and water rides there too; for something more sedentary while, promenade around the lake and along the nature trail, or hop on the little railway train for a tour around the grounds. Elsewhere, visit the limestone cave system of Castellana Caves, within an hour’s drive, to enter a pure-white alabaster cavern adorned with stick-thin stalactites, or continue on to coastal university city of Bari, a little further along the coast, which hosts heaps of foodie fests throughout the year and is a fine spot for a wander around.
