Four acres of family-friendly space flanked by fields and forest – how fab. Quiet rural site Camping La Fortinerie is a family-run place on the edge of the Forêt de Monnaie, with heaps of space but only a handful of guests on site at any one time to preserve the peace. And how even more fab – Saumur is less than half an hour away by car for when you fancy breaking away from the woodsy surrounds for days meandering around the medieval château, taking in a show at Le Cadre Noir, paddling along the Loire or sampling the town’s array of sparkling wines. You’ll not need to stray all that way for food though, for there are supermarkets, butchers, bakers and the like in the nearby villages of Vernantes and Mouliherne, and plenty of local markets to poke about in. Supplies sorted, you’re keenly encouraged to spend a chilled-out evening on site cooking on the communal barbecue and sipping something from one of the area’s wineries. Should you wish to retreat indoors to prep your meals, it’s a short stroll to the well-equipped kitchen (with microwave, oven, fridge-freezer, crockery, pans and the like); it’s also here that you’ll be able to freshen up your togs with the laundry facilities. As for freshening up yourself, that’s easily sorted in the smart shared bathrooms, which are kitted out with rain showers, mirrors and power sockets for your beautifying gadgets.

Gostou Absolutely everything! This site sets the standard very high; we came away inspired and refreshed with many very special memories as well as some pots of Tina's Relish and Red Grape Jelly! This location and it's outstanding and unique facilities is clearly a labour of love. The little potager, firepit, misting shower, fabulous showers (with bathmat!) and cosy shared kitchen were more than we could have hoped for. Justin and Tina are generous with their time, resources and knowledge and are sincere and thoughtful in their welcome and ongoing attention. Fabulous weather added to our now favourite site of anywhere we've been to date!

Gostou Using pitchup means we visit places off the usual main stream camping sites, they are always excellent and Camping La Fortinerie was fantastic, so friendly and with such great facilities. I wish we could have stayed longer. It is in a beautiful, tranquil valley, wooded and peaceful. I really recommend it as a great place to get away

Gostou What a gem of a campsite! Only stayed one night as travelling South but would loved to have stayed longer and explore the area. Small and Tina and Julian were incredibly welcoming and helpful. Gorgeous setting with many personal touches - such as hammocks, kitchen with everything you’d need and homemade jams etc. Communal firepit, kitchen area and the toilet/shower facilities were stunning.

Gostou Lots of personal touches. Bath mats were a huge treat. Lovely bathrooms. Great campers kitchen with local produce on offer. Clean and tidy. Peaceful and relaxing. Super-friendly owners. Close to Saumur. We recommend the boat trip on the Loire

Gostou Great little campsite with all the facilities you need, flat tree lined grass pitches, electric, BBQ and lounging spaces dotted around and a kitchen area with all the facilities including washing machine for use by all. Host Tina and Julian are vey welcoming and went above and beyond to help when we had vehicle issues. Would recommend this to anyone

Gostou Everything about the place. The owners are exceptional, they are welcoming make you feel at home and a part of their journey.
The facilities are the best, clean, well looked after and visited regularly by the owners “Tina and Julian.
Other benefits are in the summer fresh veg, fresh eggs, full use of the garden kitchen. That place comprises a huge fridge freezer, oven, fridge, wash hand basin, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble drying. Not to mention the many condiments, jams, chutney, fresh fruit and vegetables from the garden. Plus so much more.

Gostou We have stayed at La Fortinerie before and it never disappoints. The pitches are large and the site is pretty. Still have the best bathrooms in France :) Tina and Julian are the perfect hosts.

Atrações locais

It’s well worth making the half-hour car journey to Saumur for a day trip, wandering round its château and taking your place in the audience for the military horse shows at the famed Le Cadre Noir. If you’ve a little more time, you may like to know that the town’s also home to a tank museum, a mushroom museum and several places that you can hire canoes for a Loire-based paddle. Time for a glass of vino? Saumur’s the place for those who favour bubbles; there are plenty of fab places to take a winery tour and pick up a bottle or two around Angers (45 minutes’ drive away) as well. For an insight into how different folks lived their lives, pay a visit to the troglodyte village 40 minutes away at Rochemenier or wander round the rather fancier digs at Château de Montgeoffroy or Château de Gizeux. Should the tiddlers tire of history, there’s an excellent zoo in Doué-la-Fontaine.
