Active types excited by the watersports can keep heart rates up with a visit to the village of Liginiac 15 minutes away, to get stuck into activities including swimming, climbing and canoeing. The village also has some castle ruins to clamber around, which might inspire history buffs to head just a little further to Château de Ventadour, an 11th-century castle ruin home to falconry displays, medieval food fairs and treasure hunts. While amateur historians may find themselves immersed in the past at the Centre de Découverte du Moyen Age, engineering nerds may be drawn to two impressive structures nearby: the Marèges dam and the Rochers Noirs viaduct, both within 25 minutes. If industrial architecture doesn’t appeal, opt instead for a jaunt to Meymac, 35 minutes away. The pretty village on the Luzège has lots of narrow streets to wander and traditional stone buildings to stroll among, as well as having some lovely views over the countryside.
