Boredom be gone – this Hérault site's many perks are likely to keep even restless visitors abuzz. Camping La Carabasse is in Vias Plage, a 10-minute stroll from the beach and a couple of minutes’ drive from the shops, supermarket and restaurants of the town centre. This part of Languedoc-Roussillon is a fine spot indeed, with plenty to do and see nearby: sunny Cap d’Agde is 10 minutes’ drive away, while day trips to Sète and Béziers are within half an hour. The coast may be the main draw for those travelling here, but guests looking for a break from sand and surf have access to freshwater adventures too: there’s scope to go sailing along the nearby Canal du Midi or kayaking in the Colombières Gorges (an hour away by road). Leisure facilities on site are pretty top-notch too. Forget knobbly knee contests and fighting over deckchairs: Camping La Carabasse is home to a swish open-air waterpark complete with heated lagoon-style pool, waterslides, a whirlpool, aqua-therapy benches and a splash zone for the small sorts. Away from the water, there are playgrounds and kids’ clubs to keep the tiddlers busy, while a tennis court, archery, beach volleyball and fitness area cater for folk who like to keep active en vacances. Refuel at the on-site restaurant (stick around after for the frequent evening entertainment) or grab some supplies from the shop and set up a barbecue.

Atrações locais

Roll up, roll up – Europark Vias Plage, a fairground-style amusement park with a log flume, rollercoasters and a spooky 'dark zone', is a 10-minute walk. Gentler souls may be pleased to hear that more peaceful rides are available at the local equestrian centre (5 minutes' drive). Cap d'Agde (10 minutes) is another tourist hub, home to an aquarium, Luna Park amusement park and a waterpark. Inland, Béziers' majestic medieval cathedral, fine arts museum and historic canal locks are a mere 20 minutes' drive: the Canal du Midi passes through here too. For more wondrous waterways, make tracks to Sète, a port town known as ‘Languedoc’s Little Venice’ (30 minutes). Don't expect serene gondolas and baroque palaces here: the town's mishmash of hilltop villas, swing bridges and rocky coastline gives the place a feel of its own. Further afield, rustic jaunts can be had at Roquebrun, a pretty village with vineyards and river swims (45 minutes) or at Colombières Gorges (around an hour).
