It’ll take you quite some time to get through the activities on site, but if you’re here for a while and more entertainment’s needed, potter towards Parcenthèse leisure park (10 minutes’ drive) for the outdoor laser tag. Pondering a break on the beach instead? Carnon-Plage and Palavas-les-Flots (10 and 15 minutes) are both within easy reach – head to the latter for watersports galore. For a different type of thrill, go to La Grande-Motte (20 minutes) in the hopes of winning big at the casino (fingers crossed) or keep things more on the low-key side of things with a tour of Montpellier (30 minutes). There’s an aquarium with penguins, a free zoo, a botanical garden and an orangery here. Call in at the cathedral too, then set off to Aigues-Mortes (25 minutes) for more historical sights – this medieval walled town is full of well-preserved architecture. Afterwards, stroll around the newer buildings of Sète (35 minutes), a sprawling port city edged by the Étang de Thau saltwater lagoon, before climbing up to Mont St Clair for views across the network of canals in this settlement known as ‘the Venice of Languedoc’.
