Quite simply a cracking Cantal site – among stunning surrounds in the biggest regional park in all of Europe – oui, this is the time to pause for a sec and have a flick through the site pics. All ages will have a blast at this Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Park site (there's even a bilingual kids' club), whether they want to let off steam around the many excellent site facilities or head off a-hiking into the lush landscapes nearby. Paragliding, microlight rides and hot air ballooning are easily accessible in the region, or you could zip along to some canyoning in the nearby gorges, testing your skills at the two 18-hole golf courses, or try your hand at the local via ferrata or boating at the Saint-Étienne-Cantalès Dam and lake... Camping La Pommeraie is 700 metres above sea level with spectacular views over the Cère valley and the Cantal mountains, a peaceful wander of a kilometre and a half to the ancient spa town of Vic-sur-Cère. Regional dishes are served in the restaurant (also with spectacular views; pause again for a look at the site pics…); barbecues are allowed and there's also a food shop. The extensive leisure facilities at this big family-friendly park include a fine heated waterpark with outdoor and indoor pools, slides, a paddling pool, water toys and a whirlpool bench; a swish fitness centre; sports and archery grounds, and a roomy playground with inflatables and bouncy castle. Lively entertainment for all the family runs daily in July and August; events tailored to current guests run at other times of the year.

Atrações locais

The site is within easy reach of many popular tourist sites, including castles, hot springs, spectacular gorges and traditional villages such as Aurillac and Salers. You'll also be close to active days out canyoning, rafting, canoeing and kayaking on the region's lakes and rivers; bike routes and excellent motorbike routes among stunning scenery, and getting up into the air for Auvergne paragliding, hot air ballooning and microlight trips. Several hiking trails into the regional park start from Vic-sur-Cère a kilometre and a half away. Stay around town for an afternoon too, for the museum and its info on the Vic sur Cère mineral water, or to take the kids to the miniature golf course or park playground. The adventurously energetic can try ascending the peak of the Puy Mary in the mounts of Cantal in the Massif Central, and one of France's Grand National Sites.
