You'll feel right at home at Le Lieu, a peaceful, friendly and family-run Dordogne site in the Périgord Vert within the Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park. The site spreads over 26 acres of green scenery, with plenty of space for all, a private fishing lake, and woodland and riverside walks. A village shop, bar, bakery and restaurant are all in the small village of St Jory de Chalais five minutes' walk away. A swimming lake with beach is within 15 kilometres' drive. Amicable and helpful owners Lorna and Russ haven't stopped there with their tiptop facilities and amenities: Le Lieu also has an outdoor pool, a play area, free wifi, and a fully licensed bar and pizzeria. This pretty place is just the ticket for a roomy and peaceful getaway, or to use as a base for getting out into all on offer around the Dordogne. At just four kilometres from the N21, it's also a most handy stopover for travellers on their way to southern France, Spain and Portugal – but when you see what's on offer here, you'll likely want to stay at least another few days…

Gostou superb site. The team couldn't have been friendly or more helpful. The site is well laid out and spacious. The toilet block was immaculate.
There is a nice dog walk through fields and woodland, all within the site.
The bar area was relaxing and chilled with a good selection of beers.
No hesitation at all in revisiting on our next trip.

Gostou Everything. It’s our new favourite campsite. Great attention to details in the shower block. Great pitches with choice of shade or sun and lots of hedges. Everything was clean and tidy. Management were really friendly. Visiting butcher had delicious kebabs. Pool was lovely. Site was peaceful. 30 mins from Brantôme, a town not to be missed!

Gostou Beautiful surroundings, very friendly welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Pool very clean, as was the shower block. Excellent facilities and shaded pitch that was needed on a very hot day!

Gostou Fantastic pitches very well screened with hedges and plenty of space. Beautiful surroundings, the whole campsite is in an idyllic setting. Facilities were excellent and toilets/showers were kept immaculately clean. Our hosts Charlene and Julien were so kind helpful and didn’t stop working to make everyone’s holiday perfect! The bar & outside seating area was great and pizzas cooked by Julien were delicious!!

Gostou The previous reviews are what influenced our stay here and my goodness they were right. What an exceptional site and I just wish they were all like this. It is a beautiful, peaceful site with fantastic pitches and immaculate services but its uniqueness is down to the owners. Charlene and Julien are absolutely dedicated and make you feel so welcome without imposing on you. Their attention to detail is such a credit. The toilet/shower block is pristine and includes shower gel and boxes to put your clothes in. The bar/restaurant is in a beautiful stone building with lovely outside seating. Julian’s pizzas are delicious. The pool is delightful.

We toured France for 5 weeks and this is without doubt the best campsite we stayed on. Having such impressive owners makes such a difference and all other sites felt inferior because of it. We will definitely go back even if it means a detour.

Gostou Everything. We had a warm welcome when we arrived. Lovely large pitches with electric. Beautiful location. Every small detail has been thought of, boxes on inside of shower doors to put your clothes to keep them dry.

The spectacular Dordogne, with its splendid landscapes and scenery, prehistoric and ancient sites, jaw-dropping châteaux and deep dark caves, is a rightly popular place in France for visitors from within the country and all over the world. And then – mais oui – there's the cuisine: make sure to make room for Dordogne duck and goose, truffles, cheese, Bergerac and Monbazillac wines… For outdoorsy days/attempts to burn off laden heaps of Dordogne eats, a swimming lake (and beach) are 15 kilometres away at Grand Étang de Saint Saud; many kilometres of cycle trails are nearby, and canoes can be hired to explore the Dronne, Vézère and Dordogne rivers. The Le Lieu owners also particularly recommend the splendid subterranean experience of Villars Cave, 14 kilometres from base, as well as the spectacular châteaux at Puyguilhem (15 kilometres) and Hautefort (30 kilometres). Within day trip distance are the World War II memorial and museum at Oradour-sur-Glane; the cathedral and Roman remains of Périgueux, and the fab medieval centre of Limoges, all within 45 kilometres. Bergerac and Sarlat are both 75 kilometres away.
