Spending your holiday touring around South Wales and need a place to stay – perhaps within stumbling distance of a refreshing pint of ale? Then The Hog’s Head might just be the place for you. This family-run site has a number of hardstanding touring pitches at the back of a traditional pub in rural Monmouthshire, a 15-minute drive from the historic market town of Abergavenny. The proximity to the pub is only one of several reasons why staying here is a top idea. Your four-legged companion is also a welcome guest. The fully serviced pitches with water and drainage hook-up points sweeten the deal, alongside a toilet block and hot-water showers. There are heaps of interesting trails to explore in the area, starting with the long-distance Offa’s Dyke Path, which goes just past the site. You can follow it to the River Trothy, the forested banks of which are home to colourful butterflies, or pick it up by the medieval Whitecastle fortress (10 minutes’ drive or 20 minutes’ walk along a narrow country lane). All the while, you’ll be gazing at distant views of Sugar Loaf and other peaks in Brecon Beacons National Park. If you prefer to explore the area on horseback, there are a couple of stables within a half-hour drive of the site. In addition, you can practise your swing at several local golf clubs, or book a tour (with tasting) at the White Castle Vineyard (10 minutes). Please note that the site's pub is wet trade only, and does not serve food.

Gostou Just stayed 2 nights. Should have been 3, but the weather convinced us not to. Loved the site! Friendly and helpful owner Dale who met us on arrival. The toilets were very clean and the showers were proper showers. Enjoyed a drink at the pub and was thrilled to be shown a classic American truck. That was a bonus. Some reviews mentioned the small roads leading to the site. We found the roads no worse than roads we have taken in Devon and Cornwall even with a dual axel extra wide caravan. We highly recommend this site.

Gostou Lovely position, single track road for 3 Miles be warned. Great bathrooms.

Não gostou No contact from owner apart from text asking for balance owed. Said did you find the the toilets 5 hours after we arrived, even thought let him know when we were arriving.
No rubbish bins apart from overflowing skip. One night stop ....enough.

Gostou Tranquility of site , showers and toilets exceptional quality and all beautifully kept . Owner and staff all very friendly and helpful and comfortable pub on site . All located amidst beautiful welsh countryside and we enjoyed cycling into Abergavenny and surrounding area , visiting the local historic sites including the stunning White Castle just a few miles away . If you are a walker , the Offa’s Dyke path runs past the campsite . All in all a really great site for us as a mature couple in a VW

Gostou Such lovely facilities and the owner was lovely and welcoming. The site has its own little “bathrooms” which was wonderful! They had radiators and such brilliant showers!!

The imposing remains of Raglan Castle (20 minutes’ drive), which was partially destroyed during the English Civil War, hint at the former grandeur of this moated fortress built in the 1430s. Check out the thick walls, the Grand Staircase and the Tudor panel in the visitor centre, then have a picnic on the lawn. Head to the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (half an hour) for epic walks at places like Symonds Yat, where you can get sweeping views of the River Wye.
