Activity seekers and adrenaline champs – come and ken the place for you. Zip your way along to Galloway Activity Centre on the shores of Loch Ken in Scotland’s southwest for a shipshape activity hol, whether you’re planning on plunging into water alongside your beloved, paddling about as part of a group, or taking the family along to try (and fail) to show them who’s boss with a bow and arrow.
Even the views here are champion, with roomy pitches overlooking Loch Ken and the Galloway Hills, and the centre has assembled a winning line-up whether guests are happier on land or in the safe non-tidal waters of Loch Ken. There's a huge range of activities and outdoor equipment to tackle: outdoor laser combat games, archery, climbing, paddle sports, windsurfing, sailing, mountain biking, zip wires… take your pick then design your own activity package to mix it all up.
After all that energy burning, you might be chuffed to know that the centre has a TV for night time chilling, and that evening nosh (as well as brekkie) is available at the site café. Toilets and showers are available in the clubhouse, which is open all night.

Beautiful site with great activities
Thank you for taking the time to leave some feedback. It's always valuable to us, good or bad. I'm sorry to hear that you left after only one night - this is obviously the last thing we want to hear and I hope I can address your points. If you would like to discuss further then we would be very happy to do so and hopefully try and rectify some of the issues you had with your stay. It goes without saying that you'd be welcome to come back for your remaining nights but if this is not something you wish to do then we could discuss other options if you are ever in the area again.
The shower facilities do get a hammering over the summer. At the start of each season we renovate them but by the end of August they are sometimes looking a little tired. I'm afraid that's just the nature of a watersports centre as they are constantly wet during the day. We clean them at least twice a day as a minimum and usually 3 or 4 times during peak season. There is always someone on hand to go in at any time if they are getting messy and it is brought to our attention. They get a deep clean every week as well so although they will never look like a campsite shower block they are hygenic.
I'm afraid a four year old needs a wetsuit and a buoyancy aid as much as an adult and they count towards our instructor to customer ratio so we charge the same price for them as we would for an adult. Often children get more out of some of the activities as they get older but we have to make the decision to either let younger kids take part in a limited capacity or to not allow them on activities until they are older. We generally encourage younger kids to give things a try and we invest in things like tiny tot archery kits and small buoyancy aids and wetsuits so they can come along with the rest of their family and take part. This all costs money and younger children are often more at risk and in need of more supervision. On water activities their lower body mass makes them more susceptible to the cold and they are often less vocal at expressing this which takes extra vigilence. I'm afraid this means we don't discount based on age but we are flexible and if anyone is interested in bringing a younger child along we can work through our pricing structure to give them the best value, sometimes this can work out at less than £7.50 an hour. For those who don't wish to do this we hire the equipment as well and hiring a wetsuit for the 4 year old to come along would only have cost an additional £2.50 (for one hour).
I'm sorry to hear that you had issues with dogs. Any dogs belonging to staff are tied up during peak season. I'm not sure if you brought this to anyone's attention while you were here but if this hadn't happened for some reason then we could have rectified this at very short notice. We have dog poo bins around the centre, we offer free dog poo bags to customers and we have signage all around the centre to advertise this and request those with dogs pick up after their dogs. We pay a member of staff to walk around the whole centre twice a day to pick up dog poo. I'm afraid we cannot take responsibility for the behaviour of other dog owners. If this was one of our staff's dogs then this shouldn't have happened and I'm sorry we weren't aware of this at the time as we could have stopped it immediately.
Thank you again for your feedback and if there is anything else we can do then please feel free to get back in touch with us.
Thank you for your review and lovely pictures - it looks like you had a great time! I'm sorry you weren't keen on the restaurant but I'm glad this hasn't put you off coming back and we will look forward to seeing you again.
Thanks for your review. I'm sorry you had noisy neighbours during your stay. We have a strict silence policy from 2230 and the night watch team are there to deal with any disturbances out of hours. Being a family friendly activity centre we are happy for people to play games during the day but I'm really sorry that this negatively effected your stay. We try to cater to everyone but sometimes this is not always possible.
Our activities start at £13pp. All our instructional staff are qualified outdoors instructors and I'm afraid this comes at a price. We do packages where the activities work out at £7.50 per hour and if instructor led activities are out of budget then hiring equipment from us can be a cheaper way to get out on the water. As an example a kayak from 0900-1700 is £29 which works out at less than £4 an hour.
We want to promote outdoor activities and get as many people involved as possible. We try out best to include a range of activities for a range of budgets and the last two activities we have brought in have been specifically aimed at a lower price bracket. I'm sorry we didn't have anything in the right price point for you this time.
Fantastic for couple and family

Most folk who visit Galloway Activity Centre find more than enough to do on site, but if you do decide to explore the area you’ll be on a winning streak whether you stick close to home or get into the car for a drive around Dumfries to visit award-winning gardens, National Trust Scotland sites, championship golf courses or the many nature reserves and wildlife havens: Dumfries and Galloway has a famed Red Kite Trail, red squirrel sanctuaries and seabirds by the thousands at the Mull of Galloway.
The activity centre is right on the edge of the Galloway Forest National Park, where you can take a break from all the activity by gazing upwards: the park was the first Dark Sky Park in the UK and has the darkest skies in Europe because of its remote location.
Elsewhere, there are three hundred square miles to explore, the 7Stanes trails beloved by mountain bikers, that Red Kite Trail (and a Red Deer Range). Drop into one of the visitor centres for armfuls of info and ideas: there are centres at Kirroughtree, Glentrool and Clatteringshaws.
Also about, Castle Douglas, Galloway Activity Centre’s nearest town, has a growing (and apt) rep as Scotland’s food town: sample all sorts of fish, toffee (not together), game and other delicacies to see for yourself; you’ll be burning off hundreds of calories after all…
Foodies can also go along to one of Castle Douglas’s regular food fairs, food weekends or chef masterclasses, and walk it all off with a trek around Threave Castle and its gardens or a circular hike from Castle Douglas around Carlingwark Loch.
