Ballyroe Glamping

New to the area? You're pretty sure to land on your feet if you head down to Leap (five minutes' drive), a small village at the northern end of scenic Glandore Harbour. A small waterfall decked out with colourful fairy houses should make the kids coo, while grownups can head to Conolly's, a live music venue, for pints, spirited singsongs and woodfired pizza. Further down the harbour and closer to the coast are the pretty villages of Glandore (10 minutes) and Unionhall (10 minutes), both of which have spectacular views over the water and boats. Head to the latter for the chance to tour an authentic Cork fish smokery – a fantastically flavoursome jaunt, but one which might require a fresh change of clothes afterwards. Also around is the Drombeg Stone Circle (15 minutes), an impressive relic from the Bronze Age that can be paired up with equally excellent stones at Reenascreena (15 minutes) for a nicely neolithic couple of hours. If you're looking to head out to the very edge of the Atlantic, bounce down to Baltimore (30 minutes) to tour its coastal castle and catch ferries out to remote Cape Clear or Sherkin Island.
