Due for some relaxation? Take yourself away to this peaceful spot in a gorgeous, spacious nine-acre farmland meadow at Porlock Vale Campsite on Holt Ball Farm, which is on the National Trust’s Holnicote Estate in Exmoor National Park. There are spectacular views towards North Hill, Selworthy Forest, Hurlstone Point and Grabbist. Behind the field rises the splendid Dunkery Commons moorland, which is easily accessible via the bridleway just through the farm driveway, which leads up to Robin Howe, Webber’s Post and Dunkery Beacon. A green and sustainable site, Porlock Vale Campsite is conveniently positioned for exploring the surrounding Exmoor countryside, moorlands, woodlands and coast too. This includes Bossington Beach (10 minutes’ drive) and Porlock Weir (15 minutes). Impressive oak trees add to the pretty landscape and peace and quiet. A myriad of wildlife can be spotted, including buzzards, foxes, hares, rabbits, beavers and water voles - and if you’re lucky enough, you may see wild red deer passing through. The National Trust is progressing rewilding and land recovery projects in the area, making it a particularly interesting spot for folks who are interested in the environment, biodiversity, climate change and how farming is being adapted to benefit nature. The site’s theme of peace and tranquillity respects the abundance of wildlife and farm animals living here, which is why there is no amplified music or loud noise and quiet hours after 10pm. Recycling and rubbish bins are provided so that guests can leave no trace, as the field reverts back to its gorgeous natural state at the end of the season.

Gostou All my boxes were ticked. Peaceful, a beautiful wildlife-friendly site amongst nature, lovely views, spacious pitches, a great place to use as a base for lots of walks. Clean toilets, hot showers and eco-friendly. Weather also great:)
Dawn is a warm, friendly and welcoming host and it was nice to see and chat to her when she popped around the site with her 2 beautiful dogs. She gave great advice on walking nearby.
As a massive bonus, the internet was intermittent meaning no news or social media etc!!!!
I will without hesitation visit again.

Gostou The peacefulness and the space to just unwind. A beautiful setting overlooking the countryside with a sea view. Very well thought out site, with lots of information about the area and leaflets to hand. Clean toilets, basins and showers. A really good eco site. Dawn the owner was lovely and told me about the area and all the wonderful walks through the forests. Next time I will stay for longer to explore more.

Gostou Came back again after first visiting this site a month ago, just as beautiful now as it was then. The sound of owls calling from the woods nearby, to the wind in the trees adds to the feel of freedom in nature.So lovely to be met and greeted by Dawn with Rosie and Mia the dogs each evening as they kindly check all guests are happy with facilities provided,which are beautifully kept clean and tidy in the most wonderful countryside setting Thank you for sharing such a beautiful place.

Gostou Excellent. What a fantastic site. The views are just marvellous, the outlook across to Bossington is amazing. Peaceful, tranquil and ‘green’ facilities.
The showers and toilets are very clean and the hot water perfect after a hard day of walking. Dawn was very hospitable and helpful.

Gostou Peaceful site with lots of room for everyone to pitch, quiet area and welcoming owner. Facilities are easy to locate and water for sale £1 per 2L bottle - with proceeds going to the Exmoor Pony Project.

Views of Exmoor, the sea, the Exmoor ponies and woodland. Took a bat detector with us so we heard / saw Common Pipistrelle and Soprano Pipistrelle bats, plus lots of fox vocalisations throughout the night and the sound of Tawny owls.

Overall lovely, would be a good place to bring your dog - we will definitely return for another visit 😊

Atrações locais

The campsite shares the farm with the Exmoor Pony Project, a locally run initiative to breed, care for and encourage better understanding of Exmoor's rare native ponies. All the animals are housed in excellent conditions, and you can come and admire them looking their best as they trot between their barns, corrals and paddocks. Five minutes' drive away from site, the picture-postcard village of Selworthy has spectacular views over the local countryside, plus a tea room where you can fill up on freshly baked cake. For access to the sea, there's Bossington beach (10 minutes' drive), a pebble-based spot owned by the National Trust with pretty views over the Exmoor Hills, or you could take the scenic drive through forests and moors to Lynton and Lynmouth (30 minutes) for fish and chips on the quay and surfing in the spray. Exmoor is one of those fabulous places that has both countryside and coast to explore, so walkers and cyclists have a plethora of scenery to enjoy on their jaunts here. The South West Coast Path is one of the main draws, of course – you could fill many a day covering several different sections – while inland highlights include Dunkery Beacon (three miles away) and Tarr Steps (half an hour’s drive).
