General

  • Peaceful site in Exmoor's Porlock Vale, for guests aged 16 and over
  • A 10-minute drive from Minehead or the village of Porlock
  • In a farmed meadow on the National Trust's Holnicote Estate

Sitting among the scenic landscapes of the National Trust's Holnicote Estate, Porlock Vale Campsite is a peaceful and secluded spot for guests over the age of 16 where you can surround yourself with nature in a gorgeous farmland meadow. There's lots of exploring to be done if you base yourself at this Exmoor location, as it's close to the spectacular panoramas of Dunkery Commons, Webber's Post, Ley Hill, Horner Woods and lots of other popular walking spots.

The views on site take in oak trees, woodland, hedges, undulating pastures and nearby hills that include Dunkery Beacon, the highest point in all of Exmoor. The river Aller also meanders through the site, creating a relaxed atmosphere.

Facilities at this 17-acre site near Luccombe include access to good-quality treated drinking water, washing-up facilities, a toilet block (with male and female sections) and showers.

The warm welcome and local information provided by Dawn & Nick.
The ‘adults only’ philosophy to ensure a peaceful stay.
The cleanliness of the showers and toilets.
The little touches and provisions… soap, washing up liquid, bowl and sponges.
The permission to light a fire and the help offered to do this without leaving marks in the field.
The location in the hills and by a river, very peaceful and serene.
The proximity of walks and places of interest.

    Disliked:

The weather. But obviously out of their control. Other than that… nothing!!!

Lovely big field with loads of space between units. The owner, Nick, met us when we arrived and was very friendly and helpful with lots of information about the local area and recommendations for places to eat.
Showers and toilets were kept spotlessly clean.
A lovely, very peaceful site, away from the busy tourist spots but ideal for walking and exploring the many pretty villages in the area and for walking on the South West Coast Path.
We would definitely return to the site in the future.

Spacious, relaxing and peaceful campsite - even over a bank holiday weekend. Nick is the most cheerful and warm camp-host and pleasingly serious about campers being respectful about noise...very refreshing and makes for a lovely restful time in nature. Facilities are basic but we had hot showers and hot water for washing up - so all good!

Local attractions

The campsite shares the farm with the Exmoor Pony Project, a locally-run initiative to breed, care for and encourage better understanding of Exmoor's rare native ponies. All the animals are housed in excellent conditions, and you can come and admire them looking their best as they trot between their barns, corrals and paddocks.

Five minutes' drive away from site, the picture-postcard village of Selworthy has spectacular views over the local countryside, plus a tea room where you can fill up on freshly baked cake. For access to the sea, there's Bossington beach (10 minutes), a pebble-based spot owned by the National Trust with pretty views over the Exmoor Hills. With its thatched cottages, the adjacent village of Bossington is well worth a look-in too.

For more days out, take the scenic Porlock Toll Road (10 minutes) through forests and moors to Lynton and Lynmouth (30 minutes) for fish and chips on the quay and surfing in the spray, or carry on westwards to Combe Martin (45 minutes), home to sandy beaches and a wildlife park.
