Scenic walks by day and a smart place to stay once you’ve unlaced your boots – if that sounds like a splendid Somerset mix, set off for Owley Woods Glamping. This luxury adults-only glampsite is surrounded by the landscapes of the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty around a mile from Cheddar town centre. That setting means that those walks are easy to access – the site is right on the West Mendip Way and next door to the Somerset Wildlife Trust’s Mascall’s Wood reserve. It’s also possible to walk to the top of the famed Cheddar Gorge from here, or take a more leisurely 15-minute stroll along a footpath to get to town for pubs, shops and cafés. Dogs are welcome to join you if the thought of all this walking gets those tails wagging… When not out and about on the trails, there are games of crazy golf and watersports activities around Cheddar, and of course plenty of cheese to sample. Other outings might take you off to Wookey Hole, Glastonbury or Wells; the beaches of Weston-super-Mare and Burnham-on-Sea are around half an hour’s drive away too if you fancy a day by the coast. Wherever you roam by day, you'll be coming back to a comfy stay in a fully furnished bell tent with a kingsize bed (with bed linen provided), lighting and handy extras like a fridge-freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster. This comes along with the added luxury of a welcome pack of local goodies and complimentary tea and coffee. A private barbecue, firepit and outdoor furniture are provided too (along with firewood to get your blaze going), and you'll have access to a smart heated bathroom block with two showers and flushing toilets.

Gostou Great tent.So comfortable, warm, dry and all provisions + more. Wonderfully maintained.
Super clean toilet and shower block.
Cheats kitchen - great for help yourself hot drinks, ninja oven cooks great pizza.
BEST was the beautiful nature, so relaxing. The trees,the owl calls, the bats, the views, the sunsets 😍

Gostou Had the most fabulous weekend at Owley Woods & surrounding area. Completely checked out from hustle & bustle of daily life. My stay was extremely comfortable, very warm and everything I needed within a short walk or arms reach. My dog loved the woodland area walks, as I did. Paula is absolutely lovely and close by for any questions. Everyone else staying happy & friendly.

It’s up to you whether you visit Cheddar Gorge first or sample the wares at the nearby Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company… but either way it’s worth leaving time for a fun round at Cheddar Crazy Golf too. If you’re after rather more activity than that offered by crazy golf, perhaps check out the offerings of Brook Bank clay pigeon shooting (15 minutes’ drive) or try the watersports of Cheddar Reservoir (20 minutes). Meanwhile, for more leisurely outdoor time, the beaches of Burnham-on-Sea (half an hour) and Weston-super-Mare (35 minutes) beckon. Elsewhere in the area, it’s worth exploring the spectacular showcaves at Wookey Hole (20 minutes) and the Gothic architecture of Wells Cathedral (25 minutes), and taking a stroll around Glastonbury (35 minutes). If you want to splash some cash, the outlet stores at Clarks Village (35 minutes) may well harbour some bargains.
