Wheeldon Farm is a holiday park in the stunning south Devon countryside geared towards families looking for action-packed motorhome or campervan breaks. Active holidays are easy to come by here: you're roughly equidistant between Dartmoor National Park and the the splendid south Devon coast. With miles of green lanes to explore starting from your pitch, this is a particularly fine spot for mountain bike and e-bike riders – and you're covered whatever the weather as kids (and big kids too) can spend hours zooming around the farm's all-weather indoor tracks. There's also a small playground and football pitch where younger guests can let off some steam. On top of that, bikes are available to hire on site for adventures through the local countryside. All guests are welcome to use the modern toilets, hot showers and lounge area. Here, you'll find a washing machine, a large washing-up sink and a coffee machine. Guests are welcome to bring barbecues and firepits. Well-behaved pets can expect a warm welcome here, with daily walks (or swims) provided by the river Avon. This peaceful spot is just at the end of the green lane that crosses the site, while further afield in the South Hams there's a range of dog-friendly beaches and trails to explore. The nearest shop can be reached within 10 minutes' drive.

Gostou: Really friendly and helpful owner. He was so kind phoning and offering us advice on the best route to take to access the site. He went above and beyond to help us.

Não gostou: We had to leave early due to family circumstances. For us the site was too remote for us but for others this maybe a massive plus. Lovely walk down to the river.

Gostou: Good low priced farm country site. Hard standing with water and electric but also a great view adequate facilities and a very helpful and friendly campsite manager and family. Bonus was great walk down to river Avon down a byway open to all traffic (BOAT) with amazing woodland and birdsong!

Gostou: Very peaceful. We arrived in the dark as we booked online which was great that we could arrive late. Very friendly. Very good value as we just need a night stay before travelling

Gostou: We were greeted by the wonderful gentleman owner, he told us all we needed to know to get settled. Made us feel very welcome and at ease. Had a choice of spots as we had managed to pick a quiet night! The facilities were perfect for us, toilets, lovely hot showers and a lounge room with big washing up sink. A small play park the kids loved! We only stayed one night as we were just passing through, but a nice site that I could have stayed longer at.

Gostou: Lovly owner good site if you have a young family this is brilliant as the have a indoor dirt track.

Não gostou: So very lovly owner great place the only things that let it down was the shower and toilets they arent very camper friendly more just come off the race track and need to get most of dirt off.

Gostou: The view from the site was beautiful. The owners were friendly and welcoming. The cost per night was good for the facilities provided, particularly as each pitch had water and electric hook up provided.

Não gostou: The toilets were clean, but the floors in two of them were wet. The site itself is not suited to use of awnings as the pitches have scalping making it uncomfortable under foot.

Gostou: Lovely site , the owners are lovely & go above and beyond , very clean the shower rooms & toilet facilities was very immaculate. We have just stayed for 3 nights due to our son racing in the EXGB event , second time we’ve stayed this year & both times have been brilliant !

Gostou: Owners were very accommodating with our late arrival and very welcoming in the morning. Nice quiet spot and although we brought the rain spaces are on concrete and saved any mess or mud. We had an issue with our battery the day we left and the owner was very approachable and helped us out with a charger to get us up and running again.

Não gostou: My wife isn't a keen camper so wasn't keen on the toilets or showers and the odd bugs, but it wasn't unusable and the showers are hot so not all bad ;)

Directions on the sat nav will take you an alternative route, so we'd suggest using our directions below. Turn off A38 at South Brent (Marley Head) and follow signs through South Brent to Avonwick. At Avonwick pass the pub, go over narrow bridge and take the 5th right turn signposted 'Diptford 1 2/3 miles; Moreleigh 5 miles'. Continue on the road for 3 1/2 miles. At Crabbadon Cross signpost, please turn right and Wheeldon farm is the next right turn.

For woodland walks, you might want to take them to Haldon Forest Park (35 minutes' drive), where there's also a Go Ape high ropes course and mountain biking trails for the humans. If you've brought kids instead of canines, you might like to take them off to Woodlands Family Theme Park (10 minutes), to see the animals at Paignton Zoo (30 minutes) or to check out what's swimming at the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth city centre (30 minutes). Other must-see attractions in the surrounding area include Totnes (15 minutes), an attractive and unusual market town with a hilltop castle, Dartmouth (25 minutes), an important naval centre with estuary cruises and attractive historic fortifications, and Salcombe (30 minutes), a swish seaside resort surrounded by sandy beaches.
