Looking for an easy place to park up the caravan for the night, or wanting to hunker down for a few days and get to know Devon’s Jurassic Coast beaches or Blackdown Hills hiking trails? Either way, The Grazing Cow will work well for you. Five minutes’ drive from Honiton’s antique shops and pubs in the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this caravan site has just a handful of easy-to-access hardstanding pitches directly off the A35. On a sheltered and level paddock, each pitch has an electric hook-up, a water supply and views over peaceful farm fields, often full of grazing cows. Toilets and showers are a couple of minutes’ walk away. You’ll find them adjacent to the popular on-site café, which serves traditional all-day English breakfasts and yummy afternoon teas until 4pm daily. In the same complex is a farm shop well stocked with local goodies, so you’ll certainly never go hungry.

Gostou: Peace and quiet

Não gostou: Unkempt and neglected pitches behind an allotment. Grass not cut, bushes well overgrown growing across the entrance and dumping ground for bags of waste. Felt like we were pitched in a carpark. Given the wrong code for toilet/shower facility so could not use. Gave feedback and left day early.

Gostou: Wet room was modern and clean. Water pointed on each pitch. Cafe was excellent

Não gostou: No washing up facilities. Only one shower which could be a problem if all pitcheswere occupied.

Gostou: Lovely small site, large pitches. Very clean and modern wet room that was unisex, didn't bother us but might not be for everyone. Some people mentioned the noise from the A35, we didn't think it was that noticeable. Didn't use the cafe, as we had a dog and weather was not the best for eating outside, but you could smell the bacon being cooked. Would definitely go back to recharge our batteries

Não gostou: Not really a dislike, but no where to walk the dog direct from the site.

Gostou: Small. Nice big pitches. Excellent shop. Excellent cafe/restaurant. Nice and easy to find. Plenty of space. Friendly people and helpful staff.

Não gostou: Shower room. Very clean but inadequate. It's fine if you are the first in otherwise it is pretty damp and unpleasant. There really isn't anywhere to hang clothes, towels etc, hooks would be helpful. The shower is too far from the camping and no light. I understand why it's there but light is necessary.

Gostou: Loved the tranquility of the grazing cow. Small site surrounded by fields and allotments. Good size pitched water taps between pitches. The cafe is popular not surprising the food is delicious, also the sausage rolls from the shop were great. Staff are friendly and approachable. The facilities were clean. 30 min drive to Exeter, Exmouth, Lyme Regis and many more places. Some beaches are only 20 mins drive away

Não gostou: The distance between the pitched and the toilet and chemical disposable.only on toilet but it is a small site and my understanding is they are expanding. The toilet and shower room is exclusive for pitches but does back on to the cafe and people can be sat out enjoying there food whilst you are unlocking the door to the toilet. But don't let any of this out you off, if it's peace and quiet you are after then the grazing cow is worth a visit.

On holiday with the kids? Number-one stop will probably be The Donkey Sanctuary for cuddles with the rescued donkeys and mules, while animal-mad kids can play zookeepers for the day at Axe Valley Wildlife Park (both 15 minutes’ drive). Diggerland Devon (35 minutes) will keep everyone happily occupied driving tractors and racing go-karts, and there are rollercoasters and water rides for all ages and levels of bravery at Crealy Theme Park and Resort (half an hour). If you’re after a day of R&R at the beach, there are several Jurassic Coast options close by. Make for Charmouth (20 minutes) to go foraging for fossils, and if you have dogs with you, the long stretch of shingle at Budleigh Salterton (35 minutes) is dog-friendly all year round. Keep active by hiring kayaks or paddleboards at Sidmouth Beach (25 minutes) to view dramatic white cliffs from the sea, or stroll a short section of the South West Coast Path from Seaton Beach (25 minutes) to the cutesy seaside village of Beer (half an hour’s walk), with more than its fair share of art galleries and a pretty fishing harbour.
