What an enviable Exmoor location this is for a Devon camping holiday: Silver View Camping is just on the edge of the national park and around five minutes’ drive from the beach at Combe Martin. Pitches, covering two fields, have fine views over the valley and out to sea; on a clear day you’ll get glimpses of Lundy island (which you can also visit on boat trips from Ilfracombe, 15 minutes’ drive away). The setup is all very eco-friendly and relaxed: think of it as being a bit like wild camping but with the added luxury of access to drinking water, compost and flushing toilets, showers and a rubbish/recycling point. Campfires are generally allowed too for that true outdoor evening experience – the team here just ask that you consult with them first if planning a campfire or firepit, and pay attention to safety (raising your firepit off the ground and making sure all the flames are fully extinguished before you leave it). Please buy all of your wood on site. This is a handily located site for all sorts of days out – it’s about a mile from here to the South West Coast Path, and only a tiny bit further to kayak and paddleboard hire at Combe Martin beach (truly the way to explore, say the owners – and you might meet seals or dolphins along the way). There are plenty more walks and activities to be had around Exmoor National Park too, and plenty of ways to keep the kids amused with trips to Exmoor Zoo and the Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park.

Also lane leading up to site from Combe Martin is narrow and no passing places our van got scratched on the bushes having to give way

Gostou Nice view, quiet campsite and good facilities.

Não gostou Only very minor comment was confusion about where to park up, we left our number in a space only to find someone else had parked there when we returned later. Not a biggie as there was plenty of other spots though.

Gostou Lovely campsite with valley view and glimpses of the sea. Facilities were clean. Owner that we met was very friendly and helpful. Large open spaces when we were there on a mid August weekend. Noise was kept to a minimum. After 10pm owner does patrol for noisier groups. About 1 mile and a half walk to Combe Martin beach downhill which means its uphill on the way back!.

Gostou This is a campsite of my dreams! Lots of space , good views all round and fantastic facilities. The owner/managers were so friendly and helpful delivering logs for the fire pit and checking on us regularly. The WC and showers are very well maintained and shower was hot and consistent. Additionally there was a sitting room with electricity for charging phones - ideal for our teenage children. The site is easy to locate although Road is narrow.

Não gostou The site has a limited number of flat spaces, although in mid August at the weekend it was not at all crowded so we found space easily.

Gostou Views were great, plenty of space. Flushable loos which were kept nice and clean. And the showers were great and also kept clean. Washing up station, freezer for your ice packs. And a bonus was standard plug and usb socket chargers in a little room with sofas should you need to sit out any adverse weather.
Logs can be bought from staff, who were super friendly and up for a chat. Not the best logs, but still when they are banned in many places they were pretty chill about it. The staff also were present without interference and friendly you don’t feel ‘watched’.
Overall and nice chill basic, clean site. with everything you need. Can even get a taxi to avoid the slog of a walk up the hill from the village!

Gostou Location was perfect for a quiet couple of nights away

Não gostou We had the displeasure to be approached by a man who worked there. He said I'd this your dog. We replied yes . He literally just said you need a lead. But I'm a rude way. That was enough for us to want to leave.
Other than the rude member of staff it was lovely

This rule is in place to ensure the safety and comfort of all visitors and other animals on the site, and is an important condition of using our facilities.

To the beach? It’s a fine suggestion, as some of north Devon’s top spots are close by. The peaceful stretch of shingle and sand at Combe Martin is your closest option (five minutes’ drive) and a lovely sheltered spot for swimming or paddleboarding. A little further along the coast, stop in at Ilfracombe (15 minutes) for the unusual Tunnels beaches accessed via hand-carved tunnels, or to board boat trips for a sea safari or an outing to Lundy island. There’s an aquarium here too for a handy damp-day activity. Woolacombe (25 minutes) is another good choice for a beach trip, especially if you’re into your surfing. Away from the coast there are plenty of other options for family days out, including Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park (five minutes) and Exmoor Zoo (15 minutes) for animal encounters and Watermouth Castle (10 minutes) for rides and kid-friendly attractions. You may also like to see all the old vehicles at Arlington Court & National Trust Carriage Museum, take a ride on the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway (both 15 minutes) or pedal bikes along the traffic-free Tarka Trail from Barnstaple (25 minutes).
