It’s all about the three Rs at award-winning Heathfield Farm Camping on the Isle of Wight… Or possibly four. Or five… These nine acres of countryside are decidedly relaxed and rural; the well-kept amenities have been recently refurbished; and, as it’s a wildlife haven, it’s a fairly reasonable bet you’ll see a resident red squirrel or two: Heathfield has been the recipient of many David Bellamy Gold Conservation Awards and carefully manages its habitat to attract local birds and beasties. Running around is a breeze too, with a wildflower meadow for canines to roll around in and a roomy playing field for kids to play ball games and generally let off steam – parents can ensure relaxation while this happens by prepping dinner/supping wine at the adjacent barbecue areas and picnic tables. Specially planted native trees and shrubs shelter most of the park’s roomy and marked pitches, all of which are level, easily accessible and with electric hook-up. Although Heathfield has a remote and rural feel, its West Wight location is only a mile from the shops and eating emporia of Freshwater village. Once you’re ready to venture out, the site's tourist information office has stacks of literature on what to do locally, and the information board on site has maps with colour coded walks into bridlepaths of the surrounding countryside. Even more handily, the island’s bus network has a stop outside the park – just the ticket for some restful roaming…

Não gostou Toilets and showers very small and wouldn't be sufficient if the site was full. Some traffic noise.

Gostou The site was really well maintained, the wardens on site were fantastic! Really down to earth and so helpful as soon as we arrived.

Had the warmest welcome as soon as we arrived and were made to feel welcome arriving on motorbikes ( not always the case with campsites)

Toilets and showers were lovely and clean.

Overall a great site and would 100% return next time we visit the island.

A beautiful site near to everything wish we had stayed for longer.…

Gostou The staff were very accommodating gave us a great pitch.The site was very clean and very well maintained. The toilets and showers were spotless a tad small but clean. The site is well situated if you want to explore by car or on foot, plenty of walks nearby as well.

Gostou Lovely quiet site, very clean and well laid out, in a convenient location for visiting my friends in Freshwater Bay. Fabulous enclosed dog-walking field which was useful for early morning and late evening walks. Also just over the road from Golden Hill Fort country park, a beautiful spot for walking the dog with stunning views from the top of the hill.

Não gostou Showers were a little small, but perfectly clean (as were the toilets and washing up area).

A great experience, lovely site, very helpful and accommodating staff.

Gostou The site was immaculate, toilets and showers were amazingly clean and well cared for. The staff were so, so welcoming and helpful. We will certainly return to this site soon. A good location for this western side of the Island. Please thank the staff so much.

Atrações locais

Everywhere on the Isle of Wight is easily reachable by bus or car in the short sort of time that makes the eyes of London commuters water, but if you want to start off on the west side there’s more than enough here to keep all ages happy. Freshwater’s large village (former home of Tennyson, poetry peeps) is edged by the chalk cliffs of Freshwater Bay and its beach, a mix of sand, pebbles and waves popular with watersporters. The 67 miles of spectacularly scenic trail that is the Isle of Wight Coastal Path include a patch through Freshwater: walk two miles from Heathfield to Yarmouth to access the 14-mile walk to Brighstone, and from there the eight miles to Niton. If 67 miles of coastline isn’t enough, the Isle of Wight has over 500 miles of public pathways through towns and villages, over downs and fields, up hills and through woodland: guided tours, including fossil walks, are available all over the island and a walking festival is run every spring and autumn.
