Andark Lake

Gostou Great site. I only stayed one night before doing the Great South Run but it provided a great place to stay near to Portsmouth. Excellent facilities from what I could see, only used the toilets as had facilities in the van. Cafe looked great and will try that next time I stay. I felt safe on my own. Also good to have wifi. The wild swimming looked wonderful and obvioulsy popular.

Gostou Pre-arrival info pack (incl directions) was excellent. Staff in reception really helpful and tent-pitching area was lovely, with plenty of shelter against tree-line and great view over the lake. Showers were amazing...powerful, hot, with the ablutions block as a whole, kept really clean. Good variety of local shops and pubs etc.
Overall, an excellent location, with a nice, secluded "feeling" and surprisingly quiet, given proximity to Lower Swanwick. Would defo recommend.

Gostou Very quiet and surrounded by wildlife. Staff very nicely and friendly. Easy walk to the Old Ship for very good food. Bus stop very close for trips to Portsmouth or Southampton. Great walking area.

Não gostou Pitchup didn't advise any information on entry after hours. I had to contact Andark who fortunately sent an email even though they thought Pitchup had sent one. There is a secure gate so we would not have been able to get in without a code.
I think this is a problem for anyone who books last minute as there was a German couple who turned up out of hours when we were there and couldn't get in.

We do send out access information and pitch numbers to allow for arrival outside of our reception opening hours, and Pitchup advises to contact us if arriving out of hours.

Gostou I used gravel pitch with hook up pitch 1 my favourite as we could sit out and see the lake
Love the lake swimming and watching the divers - all v interesting
Cafe great
Showers and toilet block really good

Não gostou Would like to book direct but they have said if we ask for a specific Pitch, they will try to accommodate us

Gostou Peace and quiet in surprisingly urban environment but simply couldn’t tell other then occasional noise of traffic when wind blew in direction. Great shower and toilet facilities.

Não gostou Track up to campsite was quite rough and needed to be careful not to bottom out of camper.

The track to the campsite was recently damaged by the water company- work to bring this back up to standard is scheduled.

Gostou Peaceful only one overnight stop. Woke up to deer on sight.clean facilities

Gostou The area is clean, including the lake and having a shop within reach is plus.
The ladies in the shop are ever so nice and welcoming.

Não gostou The noise at night was horrendous, we could hear the train and motorway all night, but not during the day. We walked to find out how far is the motorway and its approximately 600 metres. I felt like I was sleeping in the middle of the motorway.
There was no communication regarding people coming in and out of the Andark Lake in the evening therefore when it is pitch dark and you see people coming in the first instinct is they are unwelcome guest to the lake, only to be told they hold yoga etc.
The emergency contact for Andy and Mark was on the leaflet but not where you would expect it to be, it’s hidden amongst the places nearby you could visit, therefore missed amongst the scare we had when we saw people coming in late evening.
On our first night there were clearly vehicles with workmen fixing something by the gate and instead of coming and explaining things to us they just clapped and shouted as if we could hear, no attempt to come near us at all.
When we raised these there were no attempts to apologise instead we were expected to know that yoga and other things do happen by the lake.

Do gerente: Much like every other campsite- there are of course going to be other visitiors- for us to inform you of every other camping arrival or visitor to the site is a wholly unrealistic expectation.

Gostou Setting, atmosphere,facilities, staff. Hamble river nearby with fabulous pubs!

Não gostou Gravel pitch has become too invasive upon the allocated grass areas of no 1 and 3, pitches.

Gostou Easy to find, quiet location. Facilities were nice and clean. We loved walking down to the pub who were super friendly. They happily welcomed in our dog. the menu was great and lots of beers on tap.

Wifi was good enough to watch the ladies rugby final on my laptop!

Não gostou I should have booked in for the swim in the little lake with the ladies in the morning, I felt like I was missing out!
