Sitting amid tall trees and dense greenery, Setthorns Campsite is pretty much completely hidden in the New Forest National Park. This Hampshire site isn't far from New Milton, but the pitches are so well concealed that it’s hard to know where the site ends and the forest begins. Winding paths and trails loop through the woodland, branching off in all directions to spacious pitches. And with trees all around, it’s easy to take off on foot or by bike for your next adventure along way-marked woodland routes, or follow the disused railway line just minutes from the site. Pitching a tent at Setthorns also puts you in pole position to spot all the New Forest wildlife, including free-roaming ponies and deer, rare wild birds and small mammals like rabbits and hares, as they go about their daily lives in the forest’s heathland and woodland. Sway (five minutes’ drive) is the nearest village, with a couple of pubs as well as a small supermarket for stocking up on basics. Pretty-as-a-picture Brockenhurst (10 minutes) and medieval Lyndhurst (15 minutes) both have a plentiful selection of shops, restaurants and pubs. And quiet and peaceful it may be, this site is also close to popular family attractions such as Peppa Pig World and the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu. It's very much worth noting that there are no shower or toilet facilities at this site, therefore your own chemical toilet facilities are essential.

Não gostou water had an interesting taste. No wifi so bring a book and leave the tele at home.

Gostou What lovely staff! I couldn't have been more pleased with how friendly the staff were. They made us feel really welcome. Thank you!
The woods were beautiful and so peaceful. I enjoyed my cup of tea watching the birds in the trees. There was a wild pony in the woods at one point which was magical. What a wonderful place to reconnect with nature.

Não gostou Barely any phone signal, and no internet at all, but I think this may be the point. I thought this was wonderful, but the kids initially were a bit grumpy with being "unplugged". Just more something to be aware of as in the evening if you have kids you might want to pack a DVD player or something.
The ground is hard so make sure you have decent pegs as your awning won't peg in otherwise. Again, both things that aren't a major issue, just something to be aware of so you can pack appropriately.

Gostou Lovely woodland location with a back to nature feeling. Pitches fairly well sized and level. Dog friendly with lots of walking trails. Close walk to a near by pub and short drive to the coast.

Não gostou Lots of rules which are understandable due to the nature of the campsite. Make sure you check all rules before booking/arriving as wardens are rude and WILL humiliate you.

Gostou We really liked how quiet the site was it was very clean and tidy with lots of places for my daughter to explore and nice little village is just a nice walk away

Não gostou The only negative is there is limited patchy phone signal and only WiFi at the reception that is not very fast

Gostou The shelteted wooded site. We were there during the hottest weekend of the year and didn't really notice it until we ventured out on a bike ride.

Não gostou Hard standing pitches are often very unlearn and need some update work. Levelling can be very challenging if your choice is limited and caravans will need blocks to extend the reach of the Jack's

You’ll never run short of ideas when staying in the New Forest. Go horse riding, cycling (you can hire bikes locally too) or hiking in the woodland; try your hand at archery, bushcraft and combat games at New Forest Activities (20 minutes); or go wild on the waterslides at Romsey Rapids Sports Complex (half an hour, a good rainy day idea too). For more cultural pursuits, have a nose around the Georgian docks and cottages at Bucklers Hard (25 minutes) on the Beaulieu River, or step back in time to the days of Henry VIII and take a ferry from Keyhaven to Hurst Castle (both 20 minutes) overlooking The Solent. A must for petrolheads, the Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum (10 minutes) has a vast collection of racing bikes, or you could take a tour of the vintage cars at the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu (20 minutes). However, if kids are part of your holiday package, they’ll doubtless be clamouring to get to the myriad rides and attractions at Paultons Park, Home of Peppa Pig World (half an hour).
