Epping Forest – 6,000 acres of green trees, woodland trails and hidden wildlife havens. By any measure it's a rather good place to camp, and Debden House Campsite, right in the middle of it all, is a top spot for an alfresco getaway close to central London. If you're wanting to get into town, or are planning on coming here without a car, you can get to the London Underground in about half an hour's walk. But don't just head into the big city every day you're here, even if you're planning an urban-based break – the area has been described as a hidden gem by many guests due to its natural scenery, with all the wildlife of Epping Forest easily accessible on foot. This is a spacious spot, with 50 acres of land stretching over seven fields (four of which are suitable for fires). Debden House Campsite welcomes one-night stays, longer stints, youth groups and organised events. The facilities include a shower block, toilets, a utility room, a coin-operated laundry and a vending machine selling cold drinks; wood is also available to buy. As part of Debden House Campsite's commitment to the environment, guests are asked to make use of the recycling points dotted around the pitching fields. This is a very safe and laidback site, with an on-site security team on call overnight for added peace of mind.

Gostou camp fires and space for each tent

Não gostou showers were broken and cold and not fixed during entire stay even though i complained, also charging for your car at 6 pound a night extra but only telling you once you arrive

Gostou Love the size of the pitches, the space in between campers, the amount of fields 7!, the area around the campsite is beautiful. Everyone I met was a regular and experience campers which was great as this was my first time camping in 15 years.

Não gostou No late check out unless you buy the day ticket. It would make sense to allow weekend campers leave 1/2 hours later on the Sunday if you're not open during the week. Be open more often! Maybe in non summer time do more of a boutique campsite! bell tent/canvas tent/4season tents only. Also promote that day ticket to Londoners needing outdoor spaces and bbqs!!

Gostou Friendly welcoming staff, nice tidy segregated pitch, clean, easy accessible facilities. Nice shop and in an awesome location surrounded by Epping forest.

Gostou We had a wonderful stay at this campsite. The surrounding area is absolutely beautiful, offering a sense of peace and tranquility that's hard to come by. One of the highlights was the easy and direct access to Epping Forest, which provided the perfect opportunity for long, scenic walks through nature. The forest trails were well-maintained and ideal for a relaxing stroll or a more adventurous hike. It’s an ideal spot for anyone looking to unwind and enjoy the natural beauty

Gostou Lots of space, security on the gate, easy to find and managed to check in earlier without any issues. They have wifi but doesn’t reach the back field. Short walk to the tube station through a nice area. Meant we could avoid the ULEZ and the cost of staying in London.

Não gostou Toilets weren’t checked through the night so no toilet paper in the morning. Husband said the men’s were awful in the morning. We were parked on field 5 which is a bit of a walk from the toilets and has no signal or wifi. Worst part was the people playing loud music late into the night and at 5am. Husband moved the camper van to get away from the noise. There were signs at the entrance saying no loud music but this wasn’t monitored or enforced. I would suggest in future that you are able to choose a quiet pitch on booking and use field 1/2 for those and that all others are put on the same field on field 5 so that they are the furthest away.

Gostou The campsite as a whole was large and as it wasn’t fully booked out there were loads of pitches around , it is also not too far from the town centre

Não gostou There’s no ‘curfew’ unfortunately we was on a pitch where the other campers liked to have very loud music and doing drugs until the early hours of the morning, they stayed for 2 nights like ourselves and the music was going on past 2:30 in the morning, this was not ideal with having babies with us

There were also children screaming from another pitch until midnight

Gostou Good location with reasonable access to public transport. Well spaced pitches, number of pitches, open spaces within each field, friendliness of staff, relaxed atmosphere and fires/bbqs accepted, cafe on site.

Não gostou Additional toilet/wash facilities with more frequent cleaning during busier periods.

Gostou Site was lovely, very big but sectioned off into different fields, very well kept grass pitches of a good size, everywhere was kept very clean, tidy and litter free by the groundsmen, it’s astonishing how many manky people leave their rubbish lying around.
Perfect location for us as we were visiting relatives close by. Also fantastic for Epping forest walks, totally surrounded by woodland and nature. Loved it!

Não gostou In field no. 5 we were quite a walk from the nearest toilet block for a night time visit and a little further away from the shower block for morning ablutions.

Set off into the forest beloved by William Morris in search of wildlife, or scout out more manicured landscapes at one of the three top-rated golf clubs that can be reached within a 10-minute drive. For more outdoor activities, head north to the Lee Valley White Water Centre (15 minutes), or for an activity that doesn't require a set of dry clothes look at what's on just down the road at River Lee Country Park (20 minutes). For history, you're close to the Royal Gunpowder Mills (10 minutes), a great place for family outings where you can spend hours learning about gunpowder, explosives and rocket propellants. Other popular kid-pleasing options in the local area include Paradise Wildlife Park (30 minutes), which is full of colourful creatures, and Canvey Island (50 minutes), where you can let the little ones run around on the sand. With the Central Line roughly a mile and a half away, it's also easy to get into the middle of London: St Paul's Cathedral can be driven to in about an hour, but it's quicker on the Tube, with journeys typically taking about 30 minutes once you've boarded a train.
