You and your other half + a couple of open-air rolltop tubs + a yurt = an excellent escapade to Essex. All this is to be experienced at A Swift Escape, an adults-only site set in the far end of a paddock surrounded by fields and trees for a real private vibe (so hikers won’t stumble across you while you’re bathing…). Got no other plans than to unwind while here? You’ll spend days taking alfresco dips and chilling out on your outdoor decking’s seating while sizzling up snacks on the gas barbecue. For a break without needing to lift a finger to feed yourselves, snacks, drinks and various food packages are also available to order. The outdoor space is smashing, yes, but so is the yurt’s interior – it’s thoughtfully decorated and has a tea and coffee-making station plus a selection of books and board games. As evening draws in, lie back on the kingsize bed and stare up at the night sky through the stargazing rooftop. As well as the open-air tubs, the yurt has an outdoor bathroom unit with hot water, a shower, flushing toilet and Butler sink. Trips can be as relaxing or as adventurous as you like at this splashy spot near the village of Beaumont-cum-Moze – restful roams at the coast are a 15-minute drive, while the buzz of Colchester is 25 minutes away.

Gostou: We had a fabulous time. The small details are so thoughtful. It’s such a beautiful place. We’ve been before, a couple of years ago. We noticed quite a few changes/ upgrades and even though we thought it was incredible last time, the improvements have definitely made it ten out of ten!

The outdoor baths looking at the stars, wow!
We hope to come again soon.

Gostou: Words cannot properly express how suddenly the world stopped and became tranquil staying in this gorgeous yurt 🛖
Beautiful done didn’t feel like any little detail was to much trouble. From the relaxing bedding to the quirky role top outside baths with rose petals to the best fire pit I’ve seen for a long time! You will not forget this place and we are definitely going back!!

Gostou: The cleanliness and well maintained grounds. The attention the detail and little thoughtful touches. The picturesque views, wildlife and absolute peace and quiet. The firepit and especially the outdoor baths top it off beautifully.

Gostou: Had the most wonderful stay. The weather wasn’t great which made the weekend even more special as we snuggled up in the yurt with the indoor fire going. I could not fault the accom and experience if I tried.

Gostou: From the Yurt 🛖 to the outdoor twin baths was indulgence to another level.
The outdoor shower and toilet were exhilarating.
The outdoor lounge area looking across the fields welcomed the sun setting with a cocktail 🍸 in hand.
The BBQ 🍗 and Fire 🔥 pit were fun to use especially if you take Marshmallows for toasting.

Make your way to the coast at Frinton-on-Sea or Walton-on-the-Naze (both 15 minutes’ drive) for beaches; the latter also has an 18th-century viewing deck to gaze at pretty panoramas from up high and is a jetting-off point for wildlife-watching boat trips. Once you’ve seen the seals out on a seafaring excursion, have a go on the rides at Clacton-on-Sea’s pier or mosey over to the town’s miniature golf course for a round (20 minutes). More urban times are to be had in Colchester (25 minutes), which has a Norman castle circled by parklands to check out and a zoo (half an hour) that's home to 260 different species of animals, including 72 mammals, 9 birds and 33 reptiles. You’re never far from nature at A Swift Escape: head to Highwoods Country Park (25 minutes) for a spot of fishing in the lake, aim for Alton Water Sports Centre (25 minutes) for aquatic activities and wanders on the walking and cycling paths or organise an expedition to the heathlands of the 48.6-hectare Essex Wildlife Trust Fingringhoe Wick reserve (half an hour).
