The Bull’s Head… that doesn’t sound like a campsite, does it? In fact, it sounds more like a… pub. But, happily for those who like to combine their beers with their breaks using the least effort possible, the Bull’s Head is both. Based in East Sussex at Herstmonceux (try saying that after a couple of pints), this site is both more secluded and quiet than you’d expect for being next to an imbibing emporium, and is listed as family-friendly. Which you might think is really rather an excellent combination… Facilities at the site include a modern toilet block and a water standpipe, and there’s no problem with cooking under the stars either as campfires are allowed in the pitching field. For guests who’d rather get someone else to dish up their meal, plenty of food (using mostly local produce) can be had in the pub, although tables for meals are best off being booked in advance after confirming your stay and are otherwise subject to availability. The pub is open between 12pm and 10pm on Monday to Thursday, staying open an hour later on Friday and Saturday and closing early on Sundays at 7pm. Grab lunch every day between 12pm and 2pm (or until 3pm on Sundays) and dinner every day but Sunday from 6pm to 8pm. There are also light bites available from 2.30pm to 6pm. Bulls Head Shack is also open on weekends from 8am to 12.30 am, and serves hot drinks, cold drinks and bacon and sausage baps (or a veggie alternative).

Gostou well kept field and facilities,grass was short,no muddy areas.
whilst basic, the toilets (hot water!)and showers -( 4 of them) were clean and looked after.
staff were personable,very helpful-nothing too much trouble.
coffee and breakfasts served from 0830 food was very good, prices average for the area.
we have family in the area,this venue makes stopping over easy.
we will be coming again
cant rate it too highly.

Gostou The pub is great. Good food and drink. Friendly staff. Well worth a visit.

Não gostou No difference in pitches. No hard standing. One shower, three loos only. Sloping, muddy field. Almost £25 for poor facilities. This is camping in a field.

Grass pitch was very well kept & flat ground.

Gostou A lovley field to stay in , not at all wet even though we had had a lot of rain . Very clean toilets , showers and washing up area , lots of toilet rolls, kitchen towels and sponges even washing up liquid. The pub was warm and inviting, Anna the host was as ever there to welcome you.

Não gostou A bit of noise from the busy road. Water temperature in the showers is not consistent (but they say a sudden cold shower is good for you!).

Gostou La place disponible car nous étions 2 pour 50 ares.
L’accueil car deja il y en avait un. L’accueil sympathique du jeune personnel. La proximité du pub à qui appartenait le camping. Equipement propre et fonctionnel.

Não gostou Le bruit de la circulation ainsi que le bruit des avions tout deux incessants. Un répit pendant la nuit.
Un petit déjeuner au pub payant bien entendu est proposé de 8 à midi sauf que c’était fermé.

Gostou Friendly welcome and helpful staff.
Great food in the pub at sensible prices.
Clean, tidy and well stocked basic facilities including showers, toilets and wash up area.

Being able to borrow a fire pit was an added bonus, logs were also a sensible price.

A good base if your exploring the local area and don’t want to stay on a big/busy site.

With something called the 1066 Country Walk running past the site, it’s not a huge stretch to guess that this is battlefield country… The 1066 Battle Abbey and Battlefield site is nearby to relive that all-important day in English history when King Harold (allegedly) got something in his eye, while there are other battle-y relics in neighbouring Hastings which also has Europe's biggest beachside fishing fleet and smuggling adventures at St Clements Caves. The 1066 route is just one of the many scenic walks in the surrounding countryside, or for day trips, Herstmonceux is recommended with its castle and the rural Herstmonceux Observatory Science Centre. As well as walking, Sussex sightseers can take the Kent and East Sussex Railway to puff along from Tenterden through the countryside of the Rother Valley to Bodiam with its National Trust castle, or stay closer to home with a trip up (or down) Hastings’s cliff railway which has the UK's steepest funicular railway. Hang on tight… For less adrenaline-fuelled sightseeing, options include a stroll along the nearby beaches – the seaside is just a short drive away – or a dander around Darwell Reservoir, surrounded by ancient woodland and the chance to spot woodpeckers and tawny owls. Meanwhile, mini battlers will be more than happy with the abundance of attractions in the area aimed at the little people, from the Blue Reef Aquarium at Hastings to getting bug-eyed at the birds of prey at Hailsham’s Knockhatch Adventure Park.
