Fancy a bit of family farm fun, mixed up with days spent splashing about at the seaside? Make your way to Merseyside and a stay at Jacksmere Camping, a farm site 10 minutes’ drive from Southport. Tucked away in a rural location, in high season this is a place where kids can scramble about at a straw-bale play area, jump about on a bouncy castle (inflated for an hour in the morning and again in the evening) and splash about in a small above-ground pool that gets put up and filled daily in warmer weather. There are ponies to meet on site too, and rides may be available at times if you ask nicely. All of this adds up to a lively family atmosphere in the school holidays; outside of these times, there's usually a more chilled-out vibe on site. Pitches here are nicely flat and have access to essential facilities including wifi and clean and functional toilets and showers. If campfires are a key part of your outdoor break, you can hire a firepit on site and get a blaze going for a cosy evening of stories as the sun goes down. Fires are only allowed in the site’s rental firepits, so please don’t bring your own. There’s wood for sale on site too – again please don't bring your own. Dogs are welcome on site but you’ll need to keep them on leads at all times because of the ponies (and other guests). There are plenty of local footpaths for walks short or long. This well-connected site is an easy 10-minute drive from Southport, a popular seaside spot where there's much to see and do. Handily, the site is also a 20-minute stroll from two restaurants and an organic farm shop, while the Lord Street shopping area can be reached within about 10 minutes by car.

Gostou They gave free ice cream to the children and the owner was lovely, they just need to make a few changes to make the campsite more nice

Não gostou Too noisy, someone had their music blaring from their car till 2am. The base was so loud I could hear it through my earplugs. There was rubbish big piles of rubbish everywhere and broken toys. Owner was lovely, just needs a few touches and can potentially be a great campsite. Toilet facilities needs an upgrade aswel.

Não gostou Do not book here . We turned up after booking two nights on pitch up with ehu to be told was fully booked and the site manager was rude and said it was nit his fault and they should have closed bookings . He did offer us a pitch where his pick up was parked about 50m from electric hookup to be honest the campsite looked shocking and scruffy

Gostou Well it is very basic but Dave who runs the site is a gent and look after his customers if you think you going please do and support daves farm I be going back myself

Gostou Good location, friendly atmosphere, weather

Não gostou On arrival, owner didn't have pitch for us, as 'everyone had turned up' and 'everyone wants electric. Ended up in a make shift spot running extension lead from a guy with a trailer tent.
Toilets were ok but wouldn't use shower.
Neighbours up talking/playing music till after midnight.
Huge rubbish pile by toilet block full of junk/food/unwanted items. Not good.
Poor lighting when going to loos in night.

Não gostou It's says it's dog friendly but it's not, we had to keep our dog tied up all the time we where there, all he did was cry

Gostou Its up the road from us. Loved it. Owner was sound and came to sit with us for a bit. Made a lovely fire supplied by the site for next to nothing and a wheelbarrow full of wood. Don't expect high end but its a quality bit of land with animals freely walking around. Loved the chickens coming to visit us throughout the day and a few ponies walking about. Kids loved it.

There’s also the British Lawnmower Museum if you’re into niche attractions. Elsewhere along the coast you could head to Formby (20 minutes’ drive) in search of red squirrels or make your way to Crosby (35 minutes) to see Antony Gormley’s ‘Another Place’ installation on the beach.
