Escaping to the Lake District? Not too confident about pitching a tent? Go right ahead and book yourself into a heated wooden pod at Ghyll Head. Surrounded by peaceful woodland, the site has stunning views down to Windermere and beyond to the Lakeland Fells, with an array of walking and mountain-biking routes accessible directly from your door. Ghyll Head also sits 10 minutes’ drive from the cafés, pubs and shops of lively Bowness-on-Windermere, should you wish to mix up rural pursuits with more urban pastimes. On the inside, each camping pod is decked out with comfy single beds with mattresses, plus under-bed heating, LED lighting, plug sockets and USB charging points so you can stay in contact with the outside world. Don’t forget, however, to bring your own bedding or sleeping bags. Private outdoor picnic tables and benches sit by each pod, so you can eat al fresco and soak up the views. No need to worry about leaving all your worldly goods behind when you’re out and about exploring either, as the pods are lockable. Simple on-site facilities to make life easy for you include showers, washing-up sinks and a sheltered shared dining area.

Gostou The location was great for being able to have nice walks, get into Bowness and the pods themselves were clean and tidy with good amount of parking and a gate which although not locked gave the area a feeling of being slightly more secure. The beds were comfy, the showers were lovely and warm and the kitchen facilities were really good.

Não gostou These are not really dislikes as such because the pods are very basic so if that's what you want then that's great, it just wasn't for us. There is no view of the lake or any view at all except the other pods, some trees and a road so you could be anywhere which is a shame as you are paying a lot of money for being in Windermere. There was no table in our pod (5 person pod) so nowhere to put anything up off the floor except on a bed. If the weather hadn't been kind it would have been difficult to prepare any food or keep items dry.

Gostou Everything. The booking process was easy and the check in was simple.
The pod was clean and had enough space. The facilities were clean and the showers warm and continuous.
The games room was a nice feature.

Gostou This quiet little site was perfect for our stay on the Lake District. Beautiful setting, great facilities and as a first time glamper I will certainly return.
The kitchen and shower blocks were nice and clean with little perks like a kettle and toaster a great little addition to make your stay a little easier.

Não gostou Can’t really fault this place, other than there was no toilet rolls in any of the 4 toilets?

Gostou Location close to lake
Beds comfortable.
Loved the table tennis and great to have additional room if it was raining.

Very close to other pods tried to pack the pods in so definitely not private.
Facilities on site - toilet seat broken.
All looks a little neglected I appreciate trying to look rustic but area looks tired.
Very early check out for 10am

Gostou We had a really nice stay here. The area is beautiful and super peaceful — perfect to relax and enjoy nature. The pod was very clean and ready when we arrived, which made everything easy from the start.
The shared bathrooms and toilets were also very clean and well looked after.
One of the best parts was the fire pits — really nice to sit around in the evening and make marshmallows, especially for the kids.
The staff were very kind and helpful.
Overall, we really enjoyed it and would definitely come back 👍

Those of you who’re keen to get active have plenty of choice. Go dinghy sailing on the lake from Windermere Outdoor Adventure Centre (10 minutes’ drive), hire a kayak to paddle around the shoreline from Windermere Canoe and Kayak (five minutes) or take care of any rainy days with a few laps of the indoor pool at Kendal Leisure Centre (25 minutes). Kids will almost certainly adore running around among the trees at Go Ape Grizedale (35 minutes) or the family-oriented obstacle courses at Treetop Trek Windermere (15 minutes). Glebe Park (10 minutes) is another clever option for sporty families, with mini golf, pitch-and-putt courses and tennis courts. If you’ve managed to wear everybody out, perhaps a quiet day is on the cards. Take the kid to bottle feed cuddly lambs at the Lakeland Farm Visitor Centre (15 minutes) – where you’ll also get a tasty locally sourced lunch. Up the animal ante with a visit to Predator Experience (15 minutes), where you can walk with majestic wolves and feed them treats.
