Sitting on the shores of the pretty Duddon Estuary, Estuary View Escapes is a simple but scenic motorhome site that's low in frills but big on views. Located at the old shipping quay known as Millom Pier and surrounded by Cumbrian countryside, the site has far-ranging vistas over ever-changing sands and tides, while turning around opens up views over the hills and fells of the southern Lake District. This laidback site has just a small number of hardstanding pitches for touring vehicles and welcomes couples, families and well-behaved dogs. Barbecues are allowed here, and there are picnic tables down near the water's edge where you can tuck into a scenic meal in the evening. There are few facilities at this small-scale space, but there is a handy chemical disposal point for guests to use. A mile away from site, Millom town centre has a good range of restaurants, food shops, takeaways and bars. Handily, there's also a railway station if you fancy exploring this part of the Cumbrian coastline by train. The nearest pub, The Devonshire, can be reached from base in about 10 to 15 minutes on foot.

Gostou This place is great! Stunning views across the estuary. When we arrived, we called the number on gate, and host came and showed us in, a very personal touch! Very informative on what’s around, even down to who delivers food to the gate, we all know we love that!!! Fresh water, chemical waste, grey waste and bins. Even the cleanest portaloo you’ve ever seen. Such a peaceful night, and a fantastic stop over. Highly recommend this site.

Gostou Peacefull tranquilaty. The owners were fantastic. Even gave us a lift to chippy in next village. We were lucky with weather and went for long walk along the coastline. Will definatley return.

Gostou The views are amazing. Wonderful very pretty portaloo. Louise, the owner, was great. She was so helpful and attentive as to whether we were alright. The site is basically a flat, open gravelled area which used to be the pier of the local Millom ironworks which was very big when in operation and is on the edge of the Duddon estuary. 5 pitches each with a picnic table. The tide goes out to reveal a wide sandy area with plenty of birds and then it comes back in quickly to fill uo the estuary. Short walk through the nature reserve to a nice sandy beach which can continue round to the breakwater at Haverigg with the sea on one side and a lagoon on the other. Rather windy while we were there so we moved to a more sheltered location. A very pleasant relaxing time and lovely views across ro the the Lake District fells, including Scafell although in the clouds at the top.

Gostou What great place this is for a small number of campervans, the views are spectacular. The site itself is flat, right next to the estuary. It is on the coastal path for walking, so quiet and peaceful !

There are exceptionally clean portaloos, grey water facilities and a fresh water tap.

Dogs are allowed on site, and we found all owners to be responsible keeping them on leads.

We found Louise to be really helpful and communicative.

Local takeaways delivery to the campsite gate, but some may want cash.

Não gostou Nothing really to dislike for short stays.

Longer stays you would probably want shower facilities, unless you have them in your van.

Atrações locais

The surrounding area has lots to keep visitors to this part of the world entertained, from peaceful pursuits like walking and birdwatching to more energetic activities like sailing, paddling and other watersports. Starting locally, you might like to visit Millom's beach, sea wall and interesting lighthouse, all of which are about a mile away from base – and if you like fishing, you can also cast your line straight from the quay. For a change of scene, there's another pleasant beach at Silecroft (15 minutes' drive). Drive for a quarter of an hour inland and you'll reach the Black Combe trailhead, the start of a two-hour walk up one of Cumbria's most impressive mountains. On a sunny day, you can take in 360-degree views from the summit, with vistas that can stretch all the way to the Isle of Man and the Mull of Galloway over the water in Scotland. Estuary View Escapes is well within reach of other Lakeland favourites, including Coniston Water (35 minutes) for watersports and boating as well as the steam heritage line operated by the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway (30 minutes).
