Mountain biking, high ropes, quad biking and boating… whatever your calling, you’ll be well placed for mucking into all sorts of outdoor activities from Newlands Valley Campsite in the Lake District National Park. Half a kilometre from Derwentwater and 10 minutes’ drive away from Keswick, this family-run pop-up site will plant you firmly near to fells, lakes and forests. You’ll be able to channel your energy into the outdoors from here, as there’s an activity centre five minutes’ drive away (climbing, archery and kayaking included). The nearest fell is five minutes’ drive away for a challenging hike and there are more trails including mountain biking or cycling courses around Whinlatter Forest Park, 15 minutes’ drive away. When you’re ready to give your feet a rest and refill with some tasty food, the local pub is 10 minutes’ walk away up the hill – it’s quite the cosy spot with a beer garden so you can stay in the fresh air if you please while you indulge in a homecooked meal. As a pop-up site, the facilities on site simply take care of the essentials – as you’ll likely be a little mucky from your adventures out and about, there are showers, toilets and clean water where you can freshen up.

Quiet during our stay. Plenty of choice to pitch.

Gostou The campsite itself is in such a beautiful location. The people who own the land and run the campsite are incredibly friendly and helpful.

We somehow had a rip in our tent after putting it up with bad weather due. They provided us with something to put over our tent while we fixed it.

Extremely friendly and lovely to talk to. The showers and toilets were extremely clean and we couldn’t believe how hot and powerful the showers were. Such a brilliant campsite.

Gostou Regardless of the weather being bad, it's a very basic pop up site that I felt was overpriced.
Near a lovely pub. Really enjoyed it in there.

Gostou Campsite is peaceful and well maintained for a pop up site. Facilities are kept incredibly clean and the showers were so powerful and hot, however showers and toilets very limited for the size of the site, but we didn’t have any issues as wasn’t too busy. The field was big enough to have space and to have a home from home. Keswick only a short drive away and the location is well set. The roads are a little narrow but makes it more fun and with it being out the way it’s peaceful.
Staff are really friendly and around when you need them.
It did rain all weekend unfortunately, but that didn’t take away from the time there.
I would love to stay there for longer than a weekend next time and explore more around the area.
Wonderful site and would definitely stay again.

Gostou Beautiful location for camping, close to a local pub and a short drive to various towns and villages. Very close to Cat Bells but be warned that climb is not quite as easy as it's made out to be for casual walkers/families etc.
Great facilities and nice to see that there are people just taking care of the site generally and making sure people don't make to much noise throughout the night.

Não gostou Be careful where you pitch. There are various small dips around the site and if you get bad weather (which we did) the ground quickly becomes soft from residual water. Not so much a criticism of the site, just a warning.

Gostou Amazing site, great views and the staff onsite are very helpful, we had an incident where out gazebo blew away in the wind/rain whilst we were walking off site and the staff kindly took out chairs inside to keep them dry.

Gostou A fantastic campsite. Everything you could want: clean, big open space, beautiful views and excellent shower, toilet and washing up facilities.

Não gostou Entrance to the adults only side gets very boggy. Could do with the same pebbel treatment the other entrance has.

Gostou This was a late booking for us, and were camped up within the hour, on a wednesay evening. A friendly welcome upon arrival, with plenty of room to choose where to set up camp. Ideally situated field, surrounded by trees, a stream, and mountains. We were within a 10 minute walk to the Swinside Inn, where we had the most amazing food. There were new mobile shower and toilet blocks, with plenty of hot water. This is a popup campsite with a lot going for it. It certainly gets a 10/10 from us.

Não gostou Not a dislike, but more of a constructive criticism... A what3words to find the campsite would be useful, as the post code takes you elsewhere.

Those of you who are ready and willing to get a little mucky (go on – you’re on holiday) might want to get started with some quad biking or Segwaying 10 minutes’ walk from the site. You’ve got a few ways to get stuck in at Whinlatter Forest Park (15 minutes' drive) – aside from hiking, cycling and mountain biking, there are zipwires and treetop obstacles to tackle on the Go Ape course. That’s not all in the way of outdoorsy pursuits. The local adventure centre (five minutes) runs kayaking and canoeing, scrambling, rock climbing, archery and another high ropes course. If you like a challenge, Catbells (five minutes) is a fell with a six-kilometre hike. For a watersports day, nearby Nichol End Marine (five minutes) offer a 20% discount for all campsite guests (just ask the site for the discount code after you've booked your pitch). Otherwise, take a more leisurely route (or a boat, if you want to rest your feet) around Derwentwater (10 minutes’ walk). Aira Force Waterfall (half an hour’s drive) has more spectacular water scenery. For more of those chilled-out activities, be sure to call by the Lake District Wildlife Park (20 minutes) and Castlerigg Stone Circle (15 minutes), a Neolithic stone circle.
