There's some really excellent hiking, mountain biking and wildlife watching to be done in the Northumberland National Park – but if there's one thing this park is really known for, it's surely the fantastic stargazing. A whopping 572 square miles here have been given Gold Tier status for their incredible dark skies, making this the largest International Dark Sky Park in the UK (and the second largest in Europe). If you're travelling in a motorhome, you’ll be able to take full advantage of these fabulous surroundings at Clear Sky Lodge Park, an adults-only touring site on the edge of Ravenshill Forest and with views over the North Tyne Valley. That setting means the views here are gorgeous by day – but they're potentially even better by night, when the starry displays start up. If you're keen to learn more about what you’re seeing, head to nearby Kielder Observatory (10 minutes' drive) for one of their regular events. And this great location also means you'll have plenty to do by day as well, exploring the trails of surrounding Kielder Forest Park, visiting Kielder Castle and heading down to Kielder Water. You might also like to throw in a day trip to the Roman attractions around Hexham (50 minutes' drive away). Preserving the dark-sky status of this park means that facilities here have necessarily been kept to a minimum, but guests have access to toilets, showers and a chemical disposal point. Pitches all have water and electric connections, and they’re on hardstanding that should be accessible in all weathers.

Gostou We went for the clear sky....the night sky was beautiful. The campsite is excellent....the shower/loos are great. So warm, with a laundry and washing up area all in one block. Well spaced pitches, and a very welcoming owner.

Não gostou Nothing, perhaps other campers not leaving their awning lights on 🙈

Gostou The site is very peaceful and small, only 7 pitches which is perfect. The toilet block has 2 huge showers and 2 separate toilet cubicles which are all huge. It’s clean and nicely made with a laundry (coins only). There are lovely walks from the site and beautiful views. Plenty of space for each pitch. All gravel but no complaints about that from us. Loads of wildlife - including a man walking his pig!!

Não gostou Nothing.

Gostou Decent sized, reasonably level hardstanding pitches. Really good newish wooden toilet block. The wood smelt divine! Drive over grey waste and there's a fresh water tap. Nice walks from the pitch. Local pub which was in walking distance is only open Friday to Sunday this time of year.

Não gostou Only gripe we had was nothing to do with the site as such, but because there is no site warden, we had an obnoxious guy pull onto our pitch with his campervan! 😡 This was despite leaving our bright yellow A frame reserved sign & our electric cable. We got him to reluctantly move. But the worst was, he tried to ram our MH when he reversed off our pitch. 😡 This was despite leaving an enormous space, for him to back up! Moron. We reported him, along with the campervan vehicle registration, to the lady whose number we had for booking the pitch. No WiFi on the pitch.

Do gerente: Thank you for your review and your lovely comments about our park, particularly the facilities and cleanliness.
I am sorry you felt your stay was affected by an incident involving another guest. Unfortunately, another guest had mistakenly parked on your allocated pitch, but they moved once the mistake was pointed out.
We did take your concerns seriously and looked into the matter at the time, including checking our CCTV. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to establish exactly what had happened.
We always try our best to provide a peaceful and welcoming environment for all our guests, although occasionally misunderstandings can occur.

Atrações locais

Given how close it is, your first visit should be to Kielder Castle, just under a mile away. It's got a variety of exhibits about the area’s history and wildlife, a lovely café and a bird hide where you can look out for the resident ospreys. Bikes can be hired here, or you can head out on a scenic drive along the toll road. There are plenty of options nearby for walks, of course – and one of the best is the Lakeside Way, an accessible multi-user trail that runs all the way along the 26-mile shoreline of Kielder Water (10 minutes’ drive). Look out for native red squirrels as you go – Kielder is home to about half of the country's population – or head to the Kielder Water Bird of Prey Centre (15 minutes) to see other local wildlife. If you're into mountain biking, you may like to cross the Scottish border to 7 Stanes - Newcastleton (25 minutes); if it’s history that’s more your thing, try heading to Hadrian's Wall to explore places like the Temple of Mithras (45 minutes) and Housesteads Roman Fort (50 minutes).
