Walking and cycling, hundreds of miles of sandy beaches and salt marshes, and shopping and sightseeing are all within easy reach. Start off with the two circular walks near the site running to Fakenham and along the banks of the Wensum (one route stretches over two miles and the other around three and a half miles), or pedal your way to Norwich along National Cycle Network Route 1, which you can join half a mile away. The north Norfolk coast is also conveniently close, with the colourful beach huts and sand dune backdrop of Wells-next-the-Sea a 10-minute drive or a scenic cycle ride away. The local bus route to Wells also connects with the Coasthopper bus service from King’s Lynn to Cromer, or if you're feeling energetic enough you can join the Norfolk Coast Path from the town. Sculthorpe Moor Nature Reserve, a short walk from the site, is great for spotting breeding marsh harriers, water rails, kingfishers and barn owls; you can also take the ferry crossing to Blakeney Point to gaze upon colonies of seals and seabirds, or visit Pensthorpe Natural Park – the set of BBC’s Springwatch – for lakeside nature trails, woodland walks and an adventure play area.
