Literally on the edge of the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (cross the B4208, and you’re within the AONB), family-run Kings Green Caravan Park is part of a working farm a 10-minute drive from Ledbury. This is a spectacular patch of Worcestershire countryside, with gentle hills, fields dotted with sheep and arable land all around. All of which is an oblique way of saying that it’s pretty quiet around these parts and that your sleep should be undisturbed by traffic noise or noisy neighbours. With the Malvern Hills well within your sights, chances are you can’t wait to lace up your boots, and with several trails starting directly from the site, you’re in for many long days of exploration. Your dog (who’s welcome at the site, as long as you keep it on a lead) should also be happy with the exercise on these hikes, which might take you to places like Golden Valley nature reserve (about an hour on foot, or five minutes by car) – or to cosy country pubs like the one in Berrow (35 minutes’ walk or a five-minute drive). Hiking not your jam? Maybe you prefer a more sedentary pursuit? The site has two fishing lakes, where (for a small daily fee) you can try catching carp, roach and other species. There's a well-maintained toilet and shower block (plus facilities for disabled guests), a washing-up area and a launderette with tumble dryer and iron. Shower tokens are required to use the shower, and there's also a cash deposit required for the toilet and shower block keys. If you need to use the laundry or the washing-up area, you will also need to pay in cash.

Gostou: Spotless toilet and shower block. Generous marked pitches with EHU. Peaceful, relaxing ponds full of huge carp.

Não gostou: A bit too regimented and open plan for our taste. Occasional early morning noise from adjoining road (commuters?)

Gostou: Clean compact campsite with all the basic amenities. Toilet/shower block was really clean. Quiet location. Fairly flat pitches. Friendly.

Não gostou: No rubbish bins so all rubbish had to be bagged and thrown into a large skip. Not easy for short people or if rubbish is messy or heavy. Had to walk along a fairly busy road to reach any footpaths.

Gostou: The site was spotless, toilets and showers also very clean. The pitch we had was on the corner, so very spacious. Very easy to get to, off the M50. Owners very friendly and a beautiful area.

Não gostou: Our only slight issue was we took a dog with us. I don't feel the site is fully equipped for dogs. If there was a field or area on site, where they could be walked and do their business, that would make it perfect. There is however a lovely walk about 10 mins drive away.

Gostou: Beautiful, peaceful and clean, just what we needed as a base to sleep and eat as we had plans for the weekend elsewhere. Great level pitches and everybody we came (staff and other campers) across was friendly.

Não gostou: Advertised as family camping but would not recommend for more than a couple of nights to families with young children as there is nothing to do on site for young children (no scooters, ball games etc). Not a problem if you go into it knowing this, which we did, so we planned around it and had a lovely time.

Gostou: The site! Very well maintained and beautiful scenery! The 2 ponds were fantastic and full of fish, im not into fishing but my lad loved fishing and we will be back again

Não gostou: Nothing to dislike in my honest opinion. Would like to be able to have a campfire but its no biggie!

Atrações locais

The magnificent rooms of 19th-century Eastnor Castle (10 minutes’ drive) are hung with enormous chandeliers and adorned with portraits, rich tapestries and decorative objects. Herds of red deer inhabit the surrounding grounds, which also host medieval re-enactments, firework displays and other events. Stretching along the banks of the Severn, Worcester (half an hour) has a splendid 11th-century cathedral with a Gothic nave and colourful stained-glass windows. You can learn all about the city’s production of porcelain in the Museum of Royal Worcester, while the Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum has displays on the renowned local sauce. The cathedral in Gloucester (half an hour) is famed for its connection to Harry Potter (several film scenes were shot in the elegant cloister). The city, which is England’s most inland port, is also worth a visit for its Victorian docks, where former warehouses now shelter independent shops, lively cafes and institutions like the National Waterways Museum.
