Fishing meets fab views at this site in the Staffordshire countryside, 20 minutes’ drive from Stafford. The fishing part of the equation at Carney Pools Camping and Caravanning comes from the setting next to two coarse fishing pools known as Carney Pools, which have fishing for all ages and abilities (including wheelchair-accessible pegs) at a pretty 12-acre site. And the views? Those come from a location that looks out over the Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The level seven-acre field is sheltered by a well-established hedge and has access to two showers and toilet facilities (separate ladies’ and gents’ toilets plus accessible facilities). Dogs are welcome as long as they’re kept on a lead and cleaned up after. Dogs aren’t allowed around the fishing pools until after the fishery closes for the day. There's a bar on site, which is open on busy weekends only. For a break from fishing there are plenty of riverside and canalside strolls nearby, along with walks in Cannock Chase and other outings to the likes of a National Trust estate, a farm park or the atmospheric National Memorial Arboretum. To sort food and other essentials, it’s a journey of just under a mile to Wolseley Bridge where there’s a shop, pub, garden centre and Indian restaurant (which will also do deliveries if you’re in the mood to flop out on site). The folk here also recommend a trip to the farm shop three miles away to pick up bits for a picnic or barbecue back at base. On bank holidays and special occasions, the site tends to put up a marquee with live entertainment.

Este é um camping familiar com excelentes instalações e banheiros e chuveiros muito limpos e bem conservados. A equipe é sempre descrita como simpática e prestativa. Os hóspedes apreciam os espaçosos locais, a área de lazer infantil central e os lagos de pesca bem cuidados. Gostou Well kept site. Clean, tidy and very quiet. Plenty of space for your tent and the amenities were very good. I didn’t use the cafe but it looked very nice.

Gostou The pitches were excellent—level, very spacious, and ideal for a comfortable setup. There were great options for kids, including a nice play park, and the relaxed rules made the stay enjoyable. We also appreciated that barbecues and campfires were allowed.

Não gostou The experience was let down by the toilet and shower facilities, which were clearly overwhelmed and insufficient for the number of guests. Management did apologize during check-in, which almost felt like they anticipated these issues. Showers cost £1 for 5 minutes, but the water pressure was so poor (barely dripping) that you’d need several coins just to have a reasonable shower. For what was provided, the charges felt unjustified—especially when many campsites offer far better facilities for free.

To make matters worse, the water supply stopped working on all three days of our stay. While the campsite has great potential, it simply couldn’t cope with the bank holiday rush. Perhaps things would be different on quieter days, but based on our experience during peak season, there’s a lot of room for improvement.

Não gostou the site was packed and some very noisy campers with a PA system which is not needed as not all the site wants to listen to them, there kids didn't care about hitting our motorhome with their ball,

Não gostou Showers didn't work and were dirty. Not much signs of cleaning anywhere, some m very unpleasant smells around the site.

£1 coin for a 5 minute shower and it didn't work. Almost no water came out.

Gostou We stayed at Carney Pools Camping and Caravanning for 3 days and 2 nights and had a great experience. The site is very spacious, with plenty of room for camping and for children to play. The toilets and shower facilities were very clean and well-maintained. There’s also a supermarket just an 8-minute drive away, making it very convenient for supplies. The site manager was very friendly and helpful, which made our stay even more enjoyable.

Não gostou One small downside is that the on-site shop has limited choices, so you may need to drive out for more supplies. Also, there is no shared fridge available.

Gostou The play area in the middle of the field was great. I could keep an eye on child while in the van.
Close to railway line. Child loved this and the noise wasn’t a problem.

Try your luck on the trails around the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust’s Wolseley Centre (five minutes’ drive) or head to Amerton Farm (15 minutes) to feed lambs, groom horses and see chicks hatching (or let off some steam at the indoor and outdoor play areas…) For more of those peaceful country rambles, spend a thoughtful day at the National Memorial Arboretum or see if you can catch one of the opening dates at Mitton Manor Gardens for some splendid topiary, water features and sculptures. Both are 25 minutes away. Can’t resist the chance to poke about in a palatial country house? Nip over to the National Trust estate at Shugborough Hall or get your imagination going at the remains of Chartley Castle; both can be reached with a 15-minute drive. If that’s all a tad sedate, you may find the thrills of Hednesford Hills Raceway (25 minutes) more to your liking.
