You’ll be in for a real rural experience when you stay at Oxford Oak Camping – this simple family-oriented site is just behind Farmer Gow’s farm park and shop in the Oxfordshire countryside. Back at base, pitches are pleasingly spacious, flat and surrounded by hedgerows for a bit of shelter. Simple facilities are provided in the form of toilets and showers, and campfires are heartily encouraged by the provision of communal firepits with seating around them. Firewood can be purchased on site to help such evenings along. With splendid views of the Ridgway and the Uffington White Horse there’s no mistaking the fact that you’re really out in the countryside here – but that doesn’t mean you’ll be cut off at all. There’s a pub about half a mile away in the village of Fernham, and it’s very easy to get to the A420 (the main Oxford-Swindon road) close by for your days out in the likes of the Cotswolds, Oxford and the North Wessex Downs.

Gostou The toilets and showers were clean, lots of hot water, plenty of books for hanging your belongings.
It was nice to have toilets separate to sinks for brushing teeth etc.
Nice to see the sheep each morning and a good location.

Não gostou campsite loosely has a pitch wherever you like policy assuming you haven't booked a hook up which is great in theory. However, with no staff managing the process, it led to tents being pitched very close together, especially later in our stay. The four permanent bell tents also took up a significant portion of the field, which limited the available space. Some clearer guidance or management for tent placement would really improve the experience.
There was a family staying whose tent was absolutely dwarfed and hemmed in on Saturday night by a large camper and huge tent pitching so close to them.

Gostou This is our third year camping at Oxford Oak and we can’t wait to come back next summer! It’s perfect for us with little ones who can run around the small field safely, and visit the lovely petting farm on site. Owners are very helpful and the bell tents are really nice. Facilities are ‘no-frills’ but that’s exactly want we want with young kids! They had a blast. Thank you x

Gostou Super clean facilities and well organized.

Não gostou The pitches are too close to each other, specially if you end in a corner pitch you will end up needing to coordinate with neighbor pitches to get in and out.

Gostou We booked a pre-pitched 6 person bell tent for our two night stay and it was fantastic. Loads of room inside, even with a double bed and four singles in there.
All the beds were beautifully made with warm duvets and blankets. A couple of lanterns were also provided.
Although the toilet / shower facilities are basic, they were clean and well looked after, with lovely hot showers!
The site was well-maintained, very peaceful and we would definitely stay here again.

Atrações locais

This is some splendid countryside, so come along prepped for walks or bike rides, either in the immediate surroundings or a little further afield in the North Wessex Downs (10 minutes’ drive) and Cotswolds (half an hour) Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. If you’re not sure where to start, the Uffington White Horse (10 minutes) and the area around Burford (half an hour) are good bets. You may spot some native wildlife as you roam, but for something more exotic you’ll need to head to the Cotswold Wildlife Park & Garden (half an hour) or to meet the snappy residents of Crocodiles of the World (25 minutes). It’s certainly not safe to get in the water there, but it is at Cotswold Water Park (35 minutes), which has a whole host of watersports as well as a beach area and fishing. For a bit of history and culture, you can’t beat a day out in Oxford (half an hour), punting along the river, touring the college quads and visiting the Ashmolean Museum. There are lots of scenic villages and towns to see up in the Cotswolds too – places like Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold (both 50 minutes) may be some of the prettiest places to see in the whole land.
