If you owned a narrowboat, could there be any prettier a pastime than pulling up to a farm shop on the historic Oxford Canal? Don’t own a narrowboat just yet? Pull up for an adults-only stay (narrowboat not necessary…) at The Pig Place near Banbury, where groups and dogs are welcome and there's no limit to the number of furry friends that can accompany you. This deliberately basic site is on a working smallholding next to the Oxford Canal, complete with a farm shop where you can buy hot drinks, snacks and cake. The site received a premises licence in 2017 too, so it sells alcohol for sipping on or off site. Bring your camera to be on the tail of some smoking hot pics here: turn your gaze waterwards for photos of narrowboats drawing in to stock up at the farm shop. Facilities at The Pig Place are basic (it has several portable toilets but no showers), but the owners rightly say the attractions on and around the site more than make up for it: whether fishing at the canal (with your own licence) just adjacent to the farm or messing about on the water with your own kayak or paddleboard. There are also plenty of scenic local walks to set out onto, including the canal towpath.

Gostou The view, the laid back vibe, nice greeting from the staff, lovely walk along the canal to the pub. You should expect simple facilities. The shop looked nice but we didn't need anything this time. The bar area and fire pit was a lovely touch.

Clean and tidy
People running the site were helpful and pleasant.
The small shop is a nice touch
Was very little traffic noise

Gostou This is a quiet, adult only site with views of the Oxford countryside. Located on the banks of the Oxford canal, there is a pub about 30 minutes walk down the tow path, which the gentleman on reception kindly informed us about on arrival. The site has a small local shop and basic toilet facilities.

Gostou Fab hostess and shop. Great little campsite and dog field which was a nice touch
Hadn't expected loos or washing up facilities so nice there were both. Although the loos are festival ones. I didn't mind though

Não gostou Road and train noise would I think put me off for longer than a night

Gostou We lived the site it was perfect for a night away with friends. We made use of the fire pits and river which had a pub a short distance away. Small shop on site and toilets were cleaned regularly.

Não gostou The bars and cafe were not open and the website did say there would be no pigs this season.

Gostou The birds in the Area.

Não gostou The shop is not a shop. It doesn't sell any of the essentials like, Milk unless frozen and out of date, bread, butter, eggs even though there is a sign outside the shop saying it does.
The bar is also the shop. It's no more than an off-licence with seating outside. This is a real shame as the surroundings were lovely.

Gostou Lovely setting, quirky features, friendly staff, the atmosphere was great with everyone on the site.
Great food, enjoyed a meal on arrival & a great breakfast.
Good little farm shop on site.

Não gostou Only 2 toilets open, the rest were padlocked as it was end of season & they were full, one of the toilets had no door & the other didn’t have toilet paper & no flush, I don’t mind festival toilets but if they’re available please keep them serviced.

Gostou Liked that it had its own shop, food stand and bar. Plenty of outdoor and indoor space for people to sit and chill. Grounds kept beautifully and great to watch the canal boats. Also have live music on. The pigs were very cute! Also it’s adults only.

Não gostou Toilets, they were portaloos and were in quite a bit of an unclean state while we were there. Could do with a dedicated toilet/shower block. No wifi.

The Oxford Canal is one of the oldest mainline canals in England and has walkies all along its 77-mile towpath, passing some of the most scenic spots and villages in Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire. It’s mostly easy hoofing along the whole route with few hills: carve a slice into a day trip or afternoon amble. Pack a picnic (of bacon sarnies) and go to Banbury four miles away to tackle the modernised towpath walk from Banbury to Cropredy via the newly added glass bridge, waterworks gallery and museum spanning the canal along the way. A day at dramatic Stratford-upon-Avon should be on the cards in any holiday too.
