Fancy a farm stay, but not so keen on the idea of navigating little country lanes? Set off to Oxfordshire and The Old Dairy Farm Caravan and Camping: getting here involves a mere 10-minute detour from the M40 at Banbury. That location makes this a most handy spot for motorway stopovers, but there’s plenty around to please those who choose to stay longer too. However long you stay at this family-run farm, you’ll not want to miss out on meeting the pygmy goats and free-range chickens and peering into the aviary; once the kids have done that, send them off for a proper run about on the large recreational field to tire them out before bedtime. Handy too are the smart and well-maintained facilities, including a toilet block, showers, a washing-up area, water supply and Elsan point. The wood-fired pizza oven gets going on busy weekends (and it’s also available for private hire if you’re having a gathering). Don’t worry if there’s no pizza action while you’re here: it’ll take just a few minutes to walk to Cropredy’s pubs, cafés and shop (or its play park). It’s also possible to walk to the Oxford Canal and River Cherwell for waterside wanders, and a short drive will get you out into the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for more walks, plus golf courses, fishing lakes and National Trust estates. In the main this is a peaceful site, but it's worth noting that a rail line passes fairly close by so you may hear a bit of noise from the pitches (or even spot trains – much to the delight of young rail enthusiasts).

Gostou: Facilities: shower block, toilets, washing up block, animals, store, kitchen, staff, play area The facilities at The Old Dairy Farm were brilliant. We'll definitely be coming back for weekends as only a little over an hour drive away. Great value for money. I came alone with my son just for a mini break and fresh air, didnt see him all day Saturday as he played with all the ither kids around.... although, I spent more than anticipated as I left purchasing a brand new air tent after getting tent envy and speaking to fellow campers lol We can't wait to come back over the summer holidays!!!

Não gostou: Pizzas sold out really quick Saturday by 5pm, so we missed out (this time, they'll be a next) Large group (5 or 6 car loads) with loud music mainly in the daytime, so both fields could here, not the sites fault, just rude inconsiderate campers - couldn't even play your own music without being drowned out by the worst playlist

Gostou: Had a great time, fantastic atmosphere, good location with the canel and lovely little village very close. Facilities were clean and tidy, campshop was great and the staff are awesome.

Gostou: Lovely site in a pretty area. Family friendly with lots of open space. Good sized pitches. Friendly staff and great facilities. My daughter loved the goats and birds. Nice walks.

Não gostou: Slight noise from some work happening on Saturday night on the train track behind campsite.

Gostou: Spacious pitch, water right on the pitch and easy to access electricity. Mainly flat, and toilets/washing facilities pretty clean considering the numbers of people on site due to the weather. Pygmy goats always a hit with the kids as well!

Não gostou: We were on the side nearest the train line, which is noisy at times, especially when overnight engineering works were going on! However we knew how close the railway is so it’s always a risk.

Não gostou: The advert Clearly says “Water Hook Up” there wasn’t, there was a shared tap with several other pitch’s. We questioned this with site staff, one said she had never heard of Water Hook Up, the other said you just fill a bucket….

Coming to the Cotswolds for a bit of fresh air and gentle activity? Set forth for fishing at Clattercote Reservoir, or tee off at Cherwell Edge Golf Course; both are about 10 minutes away by car. Country walking routes are plentiful too, of course, as are fine buildings to mooch around. Blenheim Palace (40 minutes’ drive) is perhaps the best known of all the Oxfordshire stately homes (and with good reason, for ’tis fab) but it’s worth taking a look at some others too, including Farnborough Hall (10 minutes), Sulgrave Manor (20 minutes) and Upton House and Gardens (20 minutes). For a break from the classic Cotswolds activities, head out to meet the big birds of Fir Tree Falconry (15 minutes) or sigh over all the shiny machines at the British Motor Museum (20 minutes). And if you’re in need of a tipple or two to accompany your barbecue back at base, there are some excellent local ones to be acquired at Hook Norton Brewery (25 minutes) and the Cotswolds Distillery (half an hour).
