Peaceful and with great fishing is how the folk at Ashleigh Lakes sum their pleasant place up – if you're after angling in a quiet and secluded countryside location, bag it here. Family run, Ashleigh is a small, secluded and level site between Peterborough, Spalding and Wisbech in the Lincolnshire Fens. It has one catch-and-release fishing lake within a minute or two's walk, stuffed with roach and rudd as well as mirror, common, crucian and ghost carp, tench and bream. You can fish all the day – and night – long if you wish, either with a day fishing ticket or a 24-hour one; just make sure to bring a valid licence or pick one up at the village post office when you arrive. Two rods are allowed per person. This is a wildlife haven too if your tastes tend more towards nature spotting, with foxes, hares, rabbits, deer and many bird species all roaming or fluttering about... or if you'd just like to amble about or sunbathe, the hedgerows keep the site nicely sheltered from the Fenland winds. Around the region, Ashleigh is 25 minutes' drive from Spalding and Peterborough, 30 from Wisbech and 45 from the biggest nature reserve in the country at The Wash. Amenities include washing-up, toilet and shower facilities all in the corner of the site, together with a chemical disposal point. The village post office is 50 metres from Ashleigh's entrance, as is the local bus stop – although if you ask nicely/are a tad fatigued after a Fens day hiking or cycling, the driver will often drop you off right outside.

Gostou This was our very first camping trip, and we honestly couldn't have picked a better place! Everything exceeded our expectations. The owner was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and everyone around was so helpful, which made us feel right at home.

The toilets and showers were spotless, and the whole site was well looked after. We also went fishing and even caught a big one, which was the highlight of our trip!

We had such an amazing time from start to finish and made some fantastic memories. We can't wait to come back and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable camping experience!

Gostou Great site. Loads of space in peaceful, tranquil surroundings. The shower/toilet facilities were always clean and more than adequate. The owner, Alf, (and his lovely daughter Charlotte) was always available and very friendly, but not intrusive, and we thoroughly enjoyed our chats. Thanks for also being so nice to our little dog, Wilma, even if she did ‘tell you off’. All in all, we had a great relaxing holiday, we made friends and will look forward to returning to Ashleigh Lakes again soon. Cheers Alf

Gostou The fact it’s a year round site makes a huge difference for our needs. Facilities were fit for purpose and clean. A shop was close by which helped with basic needs.

Gostou Peace and quietFantastic site for a nice relaxed weekend away. Clean toilet/shower block and well kept grounds.
It was only our second trip out with our classic caravan and a last blast before winter. Alf was very friendly and accommodating and we will be back in the summer fore sure

Gostou We have stayed at ashleigh lakes for a couple of weekends now . We love the peace and quiet, there has only been a few other people there both times we have stayed. For us it's a short distance away from home but I think it will be the first place we think of when we just want to pack and get some R n R. Husband enjoys the fishing, kid enjoys the open field and getting closer to nature just for a short while. Facilities are great for what we need and host is very welcoming. We will be back! As it's the Fens, this is nicely level land around here, just the ticket for gentle walks and bike rides around the local area. As a first stop, amble or have a short pedal along to the Elizabethan Centre a third of a mile away, for bowls, badminton, a pool table or (and) nattering with locals over a cold pint. The local badminton team play most Mondays and Wednesdays and guests are most welcome to join in during their stay. By car, get along to Spalding for an extensive shopping session at the Springfield Shopping Outlet, followed by a wander and a rest around the Springfield Festival Gardens. Peterborough's well worth a day out too, for more shopping as well as strolls along the river, and Boston 40 minutes away is home to the 14th-century Boston Guildhall and a museum at the Maud Foster Tower Windmill.
