Just how remote would you like your holiday accommodation to be? If the answer is fair to middling, Damside Campsite might just be the place for you: this pop-up spot is surrounded by the glorious wilderness of Peak District National Park. Doesn’t get much more blissfully peaceful than that – except for the occasional lowing cow, all is stillness here. Having said that, don’t worry: you won’t have to scramble across hills and dales for a pint as a traditional pub serving real ales and home-cooked food is right in the village of Peak Forest, a five-minute drive away. Both the site and the pub welcome dogs, though you'd be wise to keep them on a lead when walking past the farm animals. This is wild camping so facilities might not be abundant (there are no showers), but they are well maintained and include a portable toilet and a washing-up area. There is also fresh running water, and you’re welcome to start a campfire or a barbecue. You can grab essentials in the village shop, or head to Chapel-en-le-Frith (10 minutes' drive) or Buxton (15 minutes). If you’re here with the kids, the flat, grassy field where you’ll set up your tent makes for an excellent play area on which to run around, kick a ball or fly a kite. A nearby playground has swings, slides, a small adventure course and a multisports pitch. Walking paths start from right outside the farm, or you can drive to hiking areas like Chee Dale Stepping Stones (10 minutes), a dramatic gorge on the River Wye.

Gostou Nice big field, clean, level, pitch where you like, amazing views. Spotless little toilet set up. Easy 1 mile walk to local pub, great food & drinks served there.

Gostou Perfect for a quick last minute stay and we were lucky to only be sharing the field with another 3 couples/groups. Toilet and sink area were clean. We got pizza delivered from the pub near by, it was really good! Would recommend :)

Gostou Toilets absolutely immaculate.. spolied/soiled by other patrons at night time. Im sure the owners will have addressed this asap due to the cleanliness and facilities when we arrived.
Fantastic location. Handy for all the peak district.

Gostou Nice big field, well kept. Loos clean and good washing up area. Lovely walk right from the campsite.

Não gostou Lights didn't work in the toilets, just a little thing but the drinking water tap is really high so was quite a struggle filling up a large bottle.

Amazing stay with clean toilets and such will be staying again regular

Gostou Peace and tranquility. The views from the site are fantastic, and the night sky is amazing as there is no light polllution. A great place to rrelax and unwind. Lot of routes for Ramblers and cyclists, and not too far from the Monsal Trail.

A bit exposed so if your camping and its windy, bring some extra guy ropes.

Toilets were kept clean and tidy. Very Good Site.

Highlights in the Peak District include the Peak Cavern (15 minutes’ drive), a network of underground chambers that also hosts live music concerts; and the Mam Tor mountain, a not-too-challenging hike that rewards with far-reaching views of the surrounding hills. The spa town of Buxton (15 minutes) spreads around the Buxton Visitor Centre & The Buxton Crescent Experience, part of an elegant Georgian sweep and the place where you can learn more about the local health-giving waters. Buxton Opera House sits on the edge of the Pavilion Gardens, crossed by the River Wye – and by a miniature railway. Chatsworth House (half an hour) is well worth a visit, whether you want to relax along the banks of the River Derwent with a picnic, or explore the 105-acre garden, with its statuary and waterworks. The impressive Painted Hall, in the elegant 18th-century mansion, is covered in dramatic and vibrant frescoes.
