Bikers revving around South Dakota – or the Midwest, or the USA – run your wheels along to here and prepare to stay for some time. Rallies, a friendly vibe and a mighty fine bar all await at Kickstands Campground, a mighty biker-friendly and scenic campground just outside Sturgis: yes, the home of the huge and famed Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
The bike rally at Sturgis runs for 10 days each August and is very much a must for biker types anywhere within biking distance, but excellent events of all sorts run at Kickstands all year round if you can't get you and your trusty steed there for the rally. Bands arrive from all around to play here – think rock, folk, blues and jamming sessions – and there's always something happening at the Juke Joint – think sound system, dance floor, entertainment stage and, for fuel, a bar and kitchen.
And in among all that? Kickstands is a mighty scenic place, right off Interstate 90 on Exit 37 and under 10 minutes' drive/ride from Sturgis town. As you'd expect, this is prime biking territory too: the campground is close to the state's Black Hills and the spectacularly scenic Black Hills Run from Deadwood to Custer State Park.
Communal facilities include toilets, showers, chemical disposal and device charging. Guests staying at Kickstands for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally (strictly over 21s only, please) have free access to all campground events included in the rally price.

Lokalne atrakcje
Take the Black Hills Run if you're anywhere around this part of South Dakota with any sort of wheels, for a viewsome run through the Black Hills National Forest swathed over south-western South Dakota and north-eastern Wyoming. Travelling by foot or bicycle, venture out onto the forest along the the 110 miles of the George S. Mickelson Trail, following the abandoned track of the old railroad route from Edgemont to Deadwood.
Elsewhere, ride along to world-famed South Dakota highlights like the Mount Rushmore National Memorial, 55 minutes away, and the Crazy Horse Memorial, the biggest mountain carving in the world and commemorating all the country's Native American tribes (an hour and five minutes). Custer State Park (the biggest in South Dakota), Custer and the Jewel Cave National Monument are within 55 minutes to an hour and a half.
Drive 25 minutes from the campground to reach Deadwood, the National Historic Landmark District known throughout the world as one of the USA's main Gold Rush towns.
