There's easy access from here to the high peaks and wildlife of the Serra da Estrela and Caramulo nature parks – and the site is dog friendly, so bring the pooch for walkies too.
Help to harvest olives on site if you're here in November, or settle down with a glass of wine by the campfire among the Tapadinho pitches with their stunning views over the Vale do Silêncio/Silent Valley: this is a most peaceful Portuguese place... Tapadinho is in the wine region of Beiras which isn't thronged by hordes of tourists – as we say, if you're after authentic Portugal, this is it...
Tapadinho is a small countryside park with a meadow and pond to wander around and sip more wine at, up to date facilities include loos, hot showers and a launderette. Free wifi can be accessed throughout most of the site.
Camper & Caravan Park Tapadinho is in Villanova de Oliveirinha six miles west of Oliveira do Hospital which has supermarkets, restaurants and shops. Oliveirinha has three cafés, a post office, a fishmonger and a chemist.

Prepare to discover the countryside and ancient side of Portugal in this wildlife haven, with easy access to the Serra da Estrela and Caramulo nature parks for wildlife watching, skiing, trad village trekking and peak scaling: the Serra da Estrela mountains are the highest range in continental Portugal. (The region's soft Queijo Serra da Estrela cheese is also most recommended: its recipe goes back 2000 years.)
Shopping for Portuguese crafts like black pottery and bobbin lace is at the nearby city of Viseu (more cheese and Portuguese wine thoroughly recommended here too), and more of the same is at Coimbra along its preserved medieval Old Town, festivals, the Machado de Castro Museum and the University of Coimbra General Library.
Also in the area, go coastwards for a day or three at the beach, or ask the Camper & Caravan Park Tapadinho team to arrange a day's horse riding, canoeing or hiking.
